Magic Johnson shockingly steps down as Lakers president

Magic Johnson shockingly stepped down as the Lakers president of basketball operations Tuesday before the team’s final game of the season.

Johnson called an impromptu press conference Tuesday where he announced the news. He said part of the reason he made the decision was to maintain his relationship with Lakers owner Jeanie Buss.

It would have to be because the season was a flop...

The LeBron James signing was a complete fiasco. James was supposed to ensure the Lakers making the playoffs.
He is near the end of his playing days, and his time and takeover of the Lakers just screwed things up for the rest of the team who are mostly ten years younger than James.
Teams should only sign aging stars like James (who when healthy is still a great player) when they're contending for a title and not when they're young and rebuilding.

I love that LBJ didn't even know Johnson was going to step down. LeGroin is the biggest reason the Lakers stink right now.

Bringing in a major star, even one as great as James, into a team of young developing players whose games were subsumed for James is the height of stupidity.
As smart as Johnson was on the basketball court, he isn't very bright off it.

LeBron is not the cure.  He is the disease.

There's bound to be more than a few backup singers on the team who are not happy.

Everybody wants to play on the Lakers and be a star.

Eff LeBron.

LeBrown wants to run everything, including deciding who is on the team. That does tend to make life difficult for the coach, GM, owner, etc.

James is one of the big reasons many Americans loathe NBA players.  Here is a person who has made close to half a billion dollars bouncing a basketball but who constantly complains about how tough it is to be black in America.
Michael Jordan was a complete as*hole on the court and to his teammates, but off the court acted like a good American. James can't seem to do that.

There's one lesson that MJ has taught to all professional athletes that LeBron has failed, miserably:

Republicans buy stuff, too (though MJ specifically said sneakers). IIRC, Kareem chastised MJ, saying he chose "commerce over conscience."

Whatever...I bought my last pair of Nikes two years ago, when I discovered orthofeet.com. Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.

Tiger Woods won a big tournament yesterday.

Lewis Hamilton won the Grand Prix of China today.
