Beto O'Rourke wants farmers to hand over their 'fair share' of crops to stop global warming
By Monica Showalter

Campaigning for president in Iowa, Robert Francis 'Beto' O'Rourke thinks farmers need to do their 'fair share' to combat global warming, handing over some of their crops to save the earth.

Kid you not. According to Breitbart News:

Democrat 2020 presidential candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke proposed Friday in Iowa that the U.S. “allow” farmers to give up their “fair share” of crops to fight climate change.

O’Rourke stood aloft as he proclaimed his message at a rally in Marshalltown, Iowa Friday:

Allow?

He IS a dangerous bat crap crazy person.

I'm assuming this should apply to all producers and not just farmers, so I will graciously volunteer to be one of the people to whom Apple will hand over a fair share of their latest and greatest products.  I could use a new phone.

As usual, I plan to grow chard in my garden this summer. I always end up with more than I need, and so will be happy to share it with the less fortunate. I'm sure they'll be thrilled. Or should I plant kale instead?

Here's the full quote from Beto, which is simply incomprehensible:

Quote
If we allow farmers to earn a profit in what they grow, if we allow them to contribute their fair share in combatting Climate Change by growing cover crops, allowing the technologies that invest in precision tilling and farming, capturing more of that carbon out of the air is another way in which they can make a profit. Keep those farms together, pass them on to the next generation, and allow them to provide us our food and national security, our independence from the rest of the world, our ability to provide for the rest of the world.

Sorry, folks, but that's just gobbledy-gook.

Here's just the first thing that's wrong with his statement. Assuming "we" means the big federal government, since when does it "allow" farmers or anyone to profit from their labors? How very Soviet of Robby O'Shamrock.

How much is my fair share of his campaign donations?

I seem to recall Josef Stalin taking this same approach with the Ukraine in 1932.

Don't give Beto that much credit.   Pete Buttigieg may be light in the loafers, but Beto is lighter than air.   I have a cairn terrier with more evidence of higher brain function than Beto.

Now that he's gone national, Beto's gone full nutcase.
A lot of us figured if he managed to be Cruz, he would have gone off right after the votes were tallied.
We were warning folks then, and to think, that was the saner Beto.

Regardless of how bat crap crazy we think he is and his obvious plan for redistribution of wealth, I think we really need to realize that this is what makes him and others on the left who are promoting socialism, attractive to a lot of millennial.

The GOP needs to step up to the plate and find a way to sell conservatism, apple pie, baseball and the American dream or we will have no chance of capturing the younger vote.  Beto coming close to beating Cruz should have sent off alarms.

They need to understand that they are the ones who will be paying for all our free stuff.  Once that sinks in, they might realize how much free costs.

It is the exact same attraction that Marx had - the ability to sit on your ass and live off the production of others.

I don't think it's possible to sell conservatism to the younger vote.  All they care about are cell phones, etc.  There are too many of them out there now....all is lost.

How are they going to be made to understand that?  Our government will continue to fund all of the free stuff by borrowing, until the day that they can't.  At that point, a whole lot of other will be much more pressing.

I don't know, maybe a combination of total debt per person and total debt per person in 10 years or so at the rate we're going.  Then somehow they have to make the leap to understand that that can't go on forever.  Once they do, mention that it will go on long enough that you and I aren't going to be the ones stuck with the bill.  Hopefully that will put the fear into them that they might be the ones who find out there's no chairs when the music finally stops.

I'd also recommend they read When Money Dies.

I think you're suggesting that conservatives develop a clearly understood and communicated ideology, and start effectively communicating it.  If it's that easy, why haven't we done it (said with great frustration)?  And, maybe it is that easy.  Again, why aren't we doing it?

I think the problem is in the understanding.  We can explain it to them, but we can't understand it for them.

In 1956, my father was working his paper route and a family invited him in to watch The Lone Ranger on the first TV in his little town.  That was also the last time our government didn't end up with more debt than the year before.  We've had at least one entire generation that went through their entire working lifetime in an environment where the debt just went up.  Without looking it up, I'd say it's safe to say the majority of the population has never seen a true budget surplus. It's normal.  It's how things have "always" been.  For some of us, it's obvious that it can't go on like that forever, but to most people we're just kooks, because increasing debt is just how things work.

Personally, I think the fear angle is the key.  Just get them to accept that someday it's going to blow up on somebody, and then let them realize for themselves that it could be them.
