Letitia James joins motion to stop Trump from rerouting billions for border wall

ALBANY — State Attorney General Letitia James announced Friday that New York is joining California and 18 other states in a suit to block President Trump’s plan to reroute billions in federal funds for the wall he wants to build along the US-Mexico border.

“This wall is unnecessary, and an abuse of power that will take away resources that could be used to help Americans across our nation,” James said on Twitter, responding to a previous tweet from Trump.

“Heading to the Southern Border to show a section of the new Wall being built! Leaving now!” Trump had written.

Before leaving for California, Trump told reporters at the White House that he’s prepared to shut the border if Mexico doesn’t halt the flood of illegal immigrants from Central America, but would impose auto tariffs first.

He also said Mexico in recent days has been cracking down.
