A decade after the overthrow of the communist regime in Moldova, the former supporters of the revolution feel their country has degraded into a corrupt oligarchy – with even worse politicians than it had before.

“Some communist thieves were replaced by younger, far cleverer ones – with a bigger hunger to get rich by making easy money, especially from the state budget,” Vlad says bitterly, remembering the so-called Twitter Revolution of April 7, 2009, which overthrew Moldova’s Communist government a decade ago.

Vlad is now a 28-year-old researcher and PhD candidate in agricultural studies, living in the capital, Chisinau.
