Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigns
Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is resigning after weeks of mass protests, state media report.
Mr Bouteflika, who had been in power for 20 years, had already dropped plans to seek a fifth term as opposition to his rule grew.
The powerful Algerian army had called for the 82-year-old to be declared incapable of carrying out his duties.

They say when he came to power, he was a favorite of the people, a revolutionary but he has fallen out of favor now.
So, Algeria has not been a particular thorn in the side of anyone as opposed to some other countries. Apparently, it was time for him to go. I'm not aware of any severe human rights violations or anything else in Algeria.
He did look to be in fragile health.
