The Media Have Done Irreparable Damage To The Country
Journalists used fears over Russia and anger over Trump to try to reverse the results of a legitimate election.

For the past two years, a large swath of the media engaged in a mass act of self-deception and partisan groupthink. Perhaps it was Watergate envy, or bitterness over Donald Trump’s victory, or antagonism towards Republicans in general—or, most likely, a little bit of all the above. But now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has delivered his report on Russian collusion, it’s clear that political journalists did the bidding of those who wanted to delegitimize and overturn Trump’s election.

While bad behavior from partisan sources should be expected, the lack of skepticism from self-appointed unbiased journalists has been unprecedented. Any critical observer could see early on that Trump-era partisan newsroom culture had made journalists susceptible to the deception of those peddling expedient stories. Our weekly bouts of Russia hysteria all sprung from one predetermined outcome: the president was in bed with Vlad Putin.

Well, no... not unprecedented at all. They did the very same thing to Bush(es), and to Reagan.

Th only thing off about this article is they think this is new. This has been the history of the media since it's inception.

In this country, these kind of antics go back to Benjamin Franklin.

The only difference now is at least the people have access to an almost unlimited source of information so they can make an informed decision. (Well, they should at least be but it doesn't often seem that way).

Yeah, media fabrications and misrepresentations of late are unprecedented.

The news media turned on Jimmy Carter after it became obvious to all he was inept. As hard as they were on Reagan they still reported the good with the bad.

True they've gotten progressively worse but they've definitely hit bottom recently.

Been going on since before the Walter Duranty days at the NY Times.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

They've done it to every Pubbie elected official since FDR.
Even Eisenhower, who was a war hero, who integrated southern schools at gunpoint, and was about as moderate a Republican as they come, was depicted by many media figures as some sort of semi-evil figure.
Nixon and Goldwater really came in for heavy artillery barrage from the liberal press. We were told that Goldwater was a lunatic and couldn't wait to start WWIII. They even corralled a group of shrinks who pronounced Goldwater as certifiably crazy.
As far as the lib media goes, Pubbie presidents will never be treated fair, and Dem presidents will always get away with bloody murder. That's the way things are.
