@rangerrebew Many years ago, in my early 20s, in university, I was made aware of Tocqueville's writings about our America. I read what was written in this article. It made sense to me then, but we were not going down that trail at that time, because that was about 1956 - many of you were very young children, some of you were not yet born.
We were not aware of Spanish people, blacks were mostly "still in their place". The largest place to have numerous "foreigners" (you and/or your ancestors were not from England), was at the east coast, certainly New York City was it - the English, the Irish, the Italians, the Polish, for instance, mainly kept together in the same area as those of their ethnicity, to support each other.
It was that way in Penn., as Bob has talked of the divisions of his family in Penn. That went as far as, there was a Funeral Home owned by an Italian and he buried the Italians, his father was Polish and owned a Funeral Home for the Polish. It was the same for the Irish. None of these groups wanted their children to marry someone of another ethnicity.
Across the country west, in early days, in the era of country settlement, settlers staying alive was important so people gathered to accomplish that - ethnicity was second to staying alive.
We moved into an era of people moving in and out of ethic groups. When this happened, more violence came about because people could do violence with neighbors since they were not of their ethic group anymore.
During my early days as a child, government was seldom in our lives. In fact when I graduated high school, 1951, government still was not overbearing. Social Security started in my parent's lifetime. I think that was the beginning of the end of our country. "The Government Will Give You Money." In the beginning, one paid into it, but now free programs are attached to give one totally free money.
I have watched Tocqueville's writings come true. It is not going to improve, it can't, as government has given people so much, they will not quit wanting to keep gong up the ladder to be as wealthy as Trump and his friends. Trump, of course, did not start this, but he is so evident of living high, many homes, everything he wants he gets, and Democrats are now moving into Tocqueville's writing, promising voters they will give them enough money to live, to eat, housing, without working for it. We have crossed a line and this Republic
will go down.
To me, it is moving fast - not gradually as it has done before in my life - I think within ten years, the country will default and monetarily collapse - can't pay bills and cannot give the amount of money they promised to give people to live. People won't have jobs since the government gave them money, so they will die without government help which can no longer pay them, or they will go to drastic violence and steal and kill to stay alive.
Tocqueville was right. Live your life as you want now and be thankful to God for what you have.
