Thomas Sowell Is Right to Predict a Socialist America
By Steven Kessler

Recently, Thomas Sowell appeared on the Fox Business Network.  The host, David Asman, asked Sowell whether America will go down the dark and dangerous road of socialism:

The future of America — do you think that we are destined to go through a period of socialism, a period where these ideas that have not worked wherever they have been tried and will not work here, will be tried here, and could bring down our country?

Sowell responded by offering sober and troubling thoughts:

It's a good piece.

Quote
America's size, diversity, and democratic character are precipitating our demise.  The emphasis on equity, a moral foundation that causes envy, will surely lead us to a political ideology, socialism, that is widely known as the "politics of envy."

To conclude, the many characteristics of the American democracy that made it great are simultaneously contributing to its downfall.  As man grows estranged from his ancestors and his institutions, we will look for easy answers in all the wrong places.  Socialism is the lowest hanging fruit to pick for modern man, and we will reach that fruit by trampling our own democratic principles.

Even Thomas Sowell sees what's coming down the pike.
Tough times ahead.

But it's not going to be a "socialist" America.
It's gonna be sumthin' else.

I think the younger people who think they would like a socialist system running the country do not have a clue as to what it would mean.
These are the young skulls full of mush who stare at their i phones  59 minutes out of every hour and could not name any of their elected representatives or important historical figures/deeds from the past.
The teaching of history in their schools has most likely been related to them by leftist meatheads who told them how awful America was.  AOC is an example of one these mushheaded people. When she says she's never seen prosperity, she has to be lying or so indoctrinated she refuses to recognize what is in front of her.
The next ten years will be telling. The trend is not good. Many of today's elected Dems have shifted dramatically to the left.
The phrase "it can't happen here" is decidedly false. It CAN!! happen here.
As Reagan said every era is just one generation away from tyranny.
I just hope it doesn't come to a shooting war. Separation would be better.

Capitalism pays for what socialism can only promise.

It's a good piece.

A reflection and an opinion.
The Enlightenment, a fundamental revolt against the norms of the social order in place
since the Fertile Crescent; also ushered in the Industrial Revolution and Capitalism.
The consequence has been the eclipse of the spiritual and ascendancy of the material.
That cold reality is the root cause of the malaise that is engulfing Western Civilization.

@rangerrebew

Many years ago, in my early 20s, in university, I was made aware of Tocqueville's writings about our America. I read what was written in this article.  It made sense to me then, but we were not going down that trail at that time, because that was about 1956 - many of you were very young children, some of you were not yet born.

We were not aware of Spanish people, blacks were mostly "still in their place".  The largest place to have numerous "foreigners" (you and/or your ancestors were not from England), was at the east coast, certainly New York City was it - the English, the Irish, the Italians, the Polish, for instance, mainly kept together in the same area as those of their ethnicity, to support each other.

It was that way in Penn., as Bob has talked of the divisions of his family in Penn.  That went as far as, there was a Funeral Home owned by an Italian and he buried the Italians, his father was Polish and owned a Funeral Home for the Polish.  It was the same for the Irish.  None of these groups wanted their children to marry someone of another ethnicity.

Across the country west, in early days, in the era of country settlement, settlers staying alive was important so people gathered to accomplish that - ethnicity was second to staying alive.

We moved into an era of people moving in and out of ethic groups.  When this happened, more violence came about because people could do violence with neighbors since they were not of their ethic group anymore.

During my early days as a child, government was seldom in our lives.  In fact when I graduated high school, 1951, government still was not overbearing.  Social Security started in my parent's lifetime. I think that was the beginning of the end of our country.  "The Government Will Give You Money."  In the beginning, one paid into it, but now free programs are attached to give one totally free money.

I have watched Tocqueville's writings come true.  It is not going to improve, it can't, as government has  given people so much, they will not quit wanting to keep gong up the ladder to be as wealthy as Trump and his friends.  Trump, of course, did not start this, but he is so evident of living high, many homes, everything he wants he gets, and Democrats are now moving into Tocqueville's writing, promising voters they will give them enough money to live, to eat, housing, without working for it.  We have crossed a line and this Republic will go down.

To me, it is moving fast - not gradually as it has done before in my life - I think within ten years, the country will default and monetarily collapse - can't pay bills and cannot give the amount of money they promised to give people to live.  People won't have jobs since the government gave them money, so they will die without government help which can no longer pay them, or they will go to drastic violence and steal and kill to stay alive.

Tocqueville was right.  Live your life as you want now and be thankful to God for what you have.
