Iraq ferry sinking: 'Nearly 100 dead' in Tigris river

Mostly Kurds, going to their New Year's celebration, the Persian New Year, Newroz or something. They did overload the ferry, it sat 50 per the news reports,  maybe 200 were on board,  check details and as if they haven't been through enough.

Most of the victims were women and children, the interior ministry said. It is thought nearly 200 people were on board.

The ferry was heading towards a tourist island as part of new year celebrations.

It makes me wonder about it being a river, Tigris river, I mean, even if I were on some ill-fated boat like this, I'd hope I'd be able to swim away.

Mosul's civil defence agency reportedly said most on board could not swim.
