    The City University of New York's graduate school will host an event called “Refusing Institutional Whiteness: Possibilities, Alternatives, and Beyond” later this month.

    “Refusal,” “dissent,” and “protest” are listed as possible ways to combat whiteness in academia.

I believe they take "whiteness" in this context to mean a demand for objective standards in prose, such as: correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax and usage, as well as the proper usages of parts of speech, such as making nouns agree with verbs, and maintaining rhyme, rhythm and meter as necessary elements of poetic expression.

 Besides that, nearly all the great works of literature in the English language were written by white people. Is this now a problem?

Being English is from England, it's a little hard to separate that from whiteness I would think.

Just another way to divide and manipulate.
The Left wants all minorities to speak their own languages. This will hinder assimilation, interaction, and a cohesive nation. Which is of course the goal of all this.

English may have originated in Europe but it is far from a "White language". Today it is an international language which is spoken all over the world by hundreds of races everywhere. By American education eliminating the need to speak coherent English, they are doing their students an irreparable disservice. If they ever wind up out of America, it will be very difficult for them to converse with anyone in the world using Ebonics, for example. Nobody anywhere can understand it except urban youth.

A major problem with this idea is that there is no formal language called Ebonics. It is pigeon English with no specific rules of grammar. If it is a language with no standard rules, then how can an essay or a writing of any kind be graded as being correct or incorrect?

Speaking slang mixed with English is common. We all do that. But when the slang is allowed to replace the English language entirely, then the ability of that person to communicate broadly and internationally will be severely diminished.

The most obvious and rational answer would be to learn the language, and write in it.

(Not to burn enough books by white, English speaking authors to achieve parity, which is likely the remedy they will suggest.)
