KOMO News’ special: Seattle is Dying

John SextonPosted at 9:25 pm on March 18, 2019

“People didn’t use to use the word embarrassing about Seattle, but they use it a lot now,” the narrator to a new KOMO News special titled “Seattle is Dying” says. The focus of the special is homelessness and the ways in which it has changed the city.

There’s a section featuring angry residents of one area of the city who are screaming at their representatives for action. They want the tent cities managed and they’re tired of calling the police only to find out the police can arrest people but those same people will be back on the street, sometimes within hours.

Many times the only way to make some people learn is to rub their noses in it. They voted for their leaders....they deserve to get what's coming to them....good and hard.

It's dying thanks to a healthy dose of Liberal assisted suicide.

"KOMO News’ special: Seattle is Dying"

Maybe it would better for America if Seattle DID "die".

Same for places like San Francisco and Chicago.

I live outside of Seattle on the other side of Lake Washington, and I can tell you, when you visit Seattle it is every bit as bad as the film showed. The police are not allowed to do their jobs, and when they do bring someone in, they are let go with the charges dropped. As far as property crime per 100,000 people Seattle is twice as bad as Chicago, coming in second, only beaten by San Francisco.

I will no longer go into the city, I'm done with it.

The Show deserves an EMMY.

I live in a small town that has been ruled by Democrats for at least a hundred years that I know of.  Things were ok so long as the factories and the railroad were thriving.  But those businesses are all gone.  The town has 4 housing projects and more recently, the feds decides to stick illegals and alleged refugees in this place.  Many of the homeowners have fled to greener pastures.  I am one of the few who still maintains her home as a single family dwelling.  Most of the others around me are rentals -- generally subsidized housing for the "poor."  And those homes look it too -- particularly the broken windows and doors.

With a shrunken tax base, the town is perpetually broke. Basic services are often absent.  There is an alley behind my house where I put my garbage in collection day.  It is riddled with holes so large you could lose a Buick in them.  The alley desperately needs a complete repaving, but the town can only afford to patch it once a year.  With our winter weather, the patches might last a week.

The town could have staved off decline with sound economic policies, but no.  Instead, they gouge us few homeowners who are left and that money is dwindling as more and more owners flee.  I should leave.  When I bought my house, the town was still doing ok, but now if I sold, I wouldn't get the original purchase price I paid -- not to mention recoup what I put into improvements.  It' s pathetic.

My town isn't quite as bad as Seattle, or most major Dem-run cities, but it's a reflection of those cities on a smaller scale.   Any town dominated by Democrats is headed toward destruction.    My advice to anyone who lives in a Democrat-ruled  stronghold is to get out while you can.

Seattle is a microcosm of what is happening in California , and not far  behind is New York State. Cuomo complained that the top 1% of the wage earners paid 50% of all taxes collected, and they can't tax the rich any more or they will leave. Yet he let AOC do a good job of getting rid of Amazon. How long before Washington State drives Silicon valley down to Florida or Texas?

It's dying thanks to a healthy dose of Liberal assisted suicide.
Democrat policies and practices seem to kill everything in their path (and not just children in the womb).

@Applewood , you've described just about every small town in our region, sad to say, especially those who relied on steel or some other now-departed industry for their prosperity.

Isn't the real problem renters who don't give a damn about keeping their abodes fixed up?   Or more generally, folks drifting through life with no skin in the game?

In my town, it's a little bit of both.  And the property owners really don't care as long as they collect the rent.    As I said in my post, most of the rent here is subsidized by some government program.  In theory the government pays a percentage and the tenant pays the rest.  But I'll bet most renters don't pay their share.  From what I've heard, it's very difficult to evict these government-subsidized renters.  So the owners just collect  whatever the government pays and keep the property in bare minimally acceptable condition.  The tenants of course, don't do their part to maintain the property -- if it gets bad enough, they run to the government for help and if that doesn't work, they go on tv to whine till someone fixes what's wrong.

That is a huge problem. I live in what once was a coveted upper middle class  neighborhood back in the 1970s and 80s, but today you can drive through and pick out the renters from the homeowners by how they take of their home. A few of these are extremely bad.    But skum bag renters are not what the show is about, but instead those who choose not to live in a house, but instead on the streets where they can shoot up unharrased by the police.

The problem is that people are renters instead of owners, and that likely is due to the economic condition of the region - which usually is thanks to Democrat leadership that overtaxes and overregulates business and industry.
