That's right. The only Republican I will look at will come from the Goldwater/Reagan wing.

I don't know.  Reagan was the first major amnesty.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

I don't mind that so much. What I do know and remember is Reagan standing with Congressional leaders saying this would be a one-and-done, with enforcing law and closing the border to follow... and all them sonsabiches were nodding in agreement.

I took em at their word, and will NOT let up.

Likewise, I can give Reagan a pass, as the Lucy-with-the-football schtick was new, and just like how they got him on abortion in CA. After Reagan, there is no excuse.

Uh-huh....here we go!

Because it's all about YOU!  Right, @roamer_1 ?

I'll crawl over broken glass to vote for Trump, I suppose everything hasn't gone perfect with the wall per quoting alternet...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlterNet

In an article on this page but it is fair enough, they quote Horowitz and Anne Coulter.

As has been said, Trump has been the most pro-life president, Concerned Women of America, Susan B. Anthony list, if some think it's so important to abandon the unborn, that is their view.  We all have priorities.

Country is going great and this is a time, when it looked like we wouldn't even see another Republican elected.

Trump has been against the world,  the establishment hates him. We have never seen one party, the Democrats act so nasty and again, if the Prez was any of the others, I'd feel compelled to have his back.

Some who are critical say the people voted for such and such, well,  that person indicated they weren't going to vote for him. Fine.

I never voted exclusively for the wall, I saw it as meaning more border security, maybe we don't have much more of that, it's on the table though. And the list goes on, America is doing fairly well.

Jeb did well in some of the debates, there is a hesitancy to support him. Unfortunately, when called "Low Energy", he really doesn't exude much in the charisma department. He's a smart guy and if we kept out of dangerous costly conflicts, he could do well.

Goldwater got blown out... Goldwater was a civil libertarian in many ways, definitely on the abortion issue.

Quote
Despite his retirement, Goldwater remained active in Arizona politics. In 1992 Goldwater announced his opposition to Proposition 110, which aimed to ban abortions except when a pregnant woman's life was threatened or in cases of incest or rape. Goldwater appeared in television ads urging citizens to vote against the proposition, claiming it would be a governmental intrusion into citizens' private lives. Continuing his support of women's rights, in 1992 he publically objected to the national Republican Party's platform opposing the legality of abortion. In February 1992, Goldwater married the health care activist Susan Wechsler.

In 1994 Planned Parenthood honored Goldwater for his commitment to individual privacy and women's rights to choose abortion. The following year, Planned Parenthood established the Barry Goldwater Award, given each year to a public service official within the Republican Party who supported reproductive rights.

https://embryo.asu.edu/pages/barry-morris-goldwater-1909-1998

He was mostly a choicer, had some pro-life moments apparently.

Reagan was a great pro-lifer but believe me, it was a journey to get there.

I think when we are talking about the late '60s, early '70s, there was some confusion on the matter, sadly, I take that into account.

The tone to be taken by a challenger is critical.  The message should be simply stated -  we can best keep the prosperity by losing the chaos.

We could end the "chaos" tomorrow @Jazzhead without having to wait until 2021.  All we need to do is reach across the aisle embrace democrats and elevate the GOPe.

The "chaos" will end the moment we accept open boarders, understand a strong military is less important than free education, apologize to our allies for pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord, return the additional money Europe is paying for their own defense, give equal credibility to the voices of anti-Semitism, work out an acceptable reparations program, lower the threshold for welfare and food stamps benefits, repeal tax reform, reinstate Obamacare in full and seek federal judges who embrace the Constitution as a living document designed to change with the will of the people.

To keep things calm we can finally give Hillary the apology she deserves for our momentary lapse in judgment and grant her President emeritus status, designate CNN as the national news agency, reinstate James Comey as FBI director for life and replace Abe Lincoln with Robert Mueller on the $5 bill.

With this new tone we'll be ready to stand with heads bowed when Congress comes together and finally proclaims there is nothing special about the United States of America and voluntarily give up our guns --- for the children.

Yes, by all means let's end the "chaos".   .

What Trump's many supporters aren't going to do is expand. How has Trump expanded his base?

It's not as important to expand the "base" @FeelNoPain as it is to make headway into the world of "independents", "moderate" democrats and the minority bloc. And the President is doing this, bigly.   Those with jobs again after long term unemployment are with the President, those in the military and law enforcement are with the President, those with 401(k)s are with the President, those who want border security are with the President, those who support Israel and those who like the way the Federal courts are moving are with the President.

CNN isn't going to dig and find the truth about these numbers.  And pollsters are ineffective since positive feelings toward the President and his policies cannot be adequately captured when people feel safer saving their positive opinions for the privacy of the voting booth.

But there are hints, FNP.  One of them was quite telling and somewhat comical.  After the media took their best and unrelenting shots at the President during the weeks long government shutdown, Donald Trump stood before congress and the American people and in candid terms spoke of his administration's accomplishment and vision for America's future.  CNN spent the rest of the evening wiping egg off its collective face when 76 percent of respondents to THEIR poll gave the President's speech high marks.  I still smile when I think of this.

We made the right choice in 2016 and in even larger numbers we'll grab our MAGA caps and do it all over again in 2020.

@Right_in_Virginia you remain overly optimistic about this president and his re-election.  You mention those who want border security, those who support Israel, those in the military and law enforcement, etc.; did not all of these groups vote for the president the first time around?  That's not expanding his base.

Things at the border aren't exactly going smoothly ... the wall still isn't built, still not funded, and the fact that he waited until the last minute after the GOP lost the House majority is quite questionable.  He shutdown the government which doesn't exactly excite voters who were affected.  The fact still remains that he also signed a bill to allow states to opt out and under Trump less illegals have been deported than under Bammy. Do you think that all these issues surrounding border security are enticing new voters that want border security??

You are naming groups who you believe are now going to vote for the President that didn't vote for him before, but where are your getting your data from??

You can find polling data by race, gender, monetary status, income and political party, etc., based on voting data in '16, but where are you finding your data to definitively state, more military, more police, more pro Israel, more minorities, more independents, etc., are going to vote Trump in 2020 and he has increased his voting base?

We can make assumptions, that no one in their right mind is going to vote for a fringed far left candidate, over Trump who has moved this country in a more positive direction on some issues, but that is not an accurate measure of Trump expanding his base enough to win re-election.  I believe that if the left nominates someone like Castro, Beto or one of the females Trump could very well lose re-election.  I also believe that Trump and his campaign thinking he's got this re-election already will be his downfall.

@Fishrrman

Not to worry. Lip-biting metrosexual Chuck Todd and his lackeys on Meet the Press have the solution to this problem, which is "We need to crack down on freedom of speech and start prosecuting white people who aren't mindless, globalist pawns as racists." I think he may have had a little mini-orgasm as he was talking.

LOTS of talk by all of them of limiting freedom by placing more goobermint control over the internet, but nobody seemed to be interested in controlling the brain farts of leftist mainstream outlets like CNN or NBC.

UpChuck seemed to get a little excited earlier in the show when he put up a survey showing that the majority of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 now consider socialism to be the ideal system of government. Gee,I wonder where they got THAT idea? Could it have been from their socialist school teachers who taught school because they couldn't find another job?

I don't know what the polls will say about Trump as we head into campaigning.  I am sure there are people who are still dedicated to the Trump.  But signing that last bill is going to turn off some of his supporters.  Especially since he was warned by well known Conservatives not to sign it.  Now we have several high illegal crossing cities who will reject the wall.  Like El Paso.  These border cities are holding the rest of the country back from stopping the flow of illegal immigrants.

I see @Right_in_Virginia is rejecting your message but you are right about immigration.  That is what Trump won on and I think he is going to loose supporters.  Looks like Trump has the back up plan.  Pull in Democrats who are rejecting anti-Semitism in the Democratic party.  Unlike Trump I wouldn't say welcome.  These are the same people with liberals views minus the anti-Semitism of two Congresswomen.  We have already moved too far to the left.  The pendulum needs to swing back toward Constitutional Law and Conservatism.  If Trump wants to save his presidency it isn't going to be trashing Conservatives.  Those are the ones he would have to work hard to pull them back in.  We need to cleanse the Republican party of the left leaning Republicans.  Not bring more in.  Those are the ones who have absolutely destroyed Trumps promises.  Like Lindsey Graham, and the RINO's like Mitch McConnell.

I know that there are people who still can't get themselves to admit mistakes Trump has made.  But he has spent his entire presidency fighting fires.  His liberal friends, and poor choices for appointments and staff have created chaos.  Cohen, Amorosa, Manafort.  His family in the West Wing..........  Going left or drawing liberals is not going to win the race.
