Manafort ordered to serve an additional 43 months in prison
« on: March 13, 2019, 04:15:02 pm »
Judge Amy Berman Jackson has ordered Paul Manafort to serve an additional 43 months in prison, on top of his sentence he received last week from the court in Virginia.

Doing the quick math, she had originally sentenced him to 90 months (7.5 years), to be served concurrently. Subtracting the 47 months sentenced by Judge Ellis, last week, gives the additional 43 months of time.

I really don't give a rat's ass about any political dealings in the sentence, but if he truly did the tax and bank fraud thing......

I hope he and Bubba in Cell Block 7 have plenty of intimate time.

He’s already served about 9 months, which will be applied to the total of 90 months. Not accounting for potential time he could receive for good behavior or a potential pardon, he will be released around Christmas 2026.

I'm gonna guess Manafort ends up in some minimum security "Club Fed" and won't be in with some gangstas.

A purely punitive judgment by a partisan hack leftist judge, IMO.  Meanwhile... Democrats get away scott free with far worse "crimes".  Thus continuing to prove that there is no justice in America any more.... since that two-tier (unbalanced scales times x) system is in full force.

Well we know failing to register as a foreign agent usually is remedied by filing the correct paperwork. Does anyone know exactly how Manafort 'witness tampered' yet?

Not that I'm aware of.   But since they seem intent on making an example of him by throwing the proverbial book at him.... I would question the charge.

Yes, we do. It was one of the reasons his bail was revoked. You can always do a web search of 'manafort witness tampering' and find plenty of stories about it from last June. Interestingly, you can do the same with 'tony podesta fara' and discover the case was criminally referred, by Mueller, to SDNY for review last July. Since the US Attorney, Geoffrey Berman, is not recused from prosecuting him, you'd have to wonder why the Trump appointee hasn't done it yet.

Piling on with state charges means if he’s convicted in New York State, President Trump can’t pardon him.

Much as I would love to see Hillary do the perp walk (or in her case, the "perp stagger"), it's not going to happen, but that should not mean that Manafort or anyone else in Trump's circle should get off scot free for crimes that any of them may be convicted of.  One does not have any relation to the other and I'm tired of listening to/reading Trump supporters constantly whine about the injustice of it all.

I happen to believe that no one escapes punishment for their sins.  Maybe in this life, but definitely not in the next.  As to Hillary, I think her punishment has already started.  She has some health issues and she  will not realize her dream of the presidency  That is the beginning of her punishment.  Might not seem like enough now, but don't worry.  She will get what's coming to her.

And actually, so will the rest of us.

Who here is saying that he should get off scott free?   Certainly not I.   But it is clear that they are throwing the book at Manafort over "crimes" that others either get off on or get much lighter sentences for (white collar crime penalties depend upon whether or not you have that magic "D" or not).   The only difference I see is Manafort's connection to Trump... which they are using to stain Trump with.  That's my take on it, anyway.

And... I'm not exactly a "Trump supporter" officially.  That I happen to be 100% against the radical left usually puts me in that category, however.

Wasn't Billy Carter an agent for Libya?

OK I recall that he attempted to contact a couple of people regarding the failure to register as a foreign agent charge.

What a joke.

When we allow the Justice system to become the agent of one political agenda we are ALL in great danger!

Yes, he tried multiple times, through what he thought was a secure app, to contact people in the Hapsburg Group. It was an attempt to inform them about what he'd already said, so they wouldn't contradict him. Basically, that's witness coaching and tampering. If you think that's a joke, remember that, the next time you're on a thread about Cohen and Schiff meeting before his testimony. It's the same thing.

At least one of the contacts didn't want anything to do with it, knew what Manafort was up to, and contacted the Mueller people with the information.

Friedman subsequently contacted Mueller's office and said he believed Manafort's messages were part of an effort to "suborn perjury," or coax them into giving false testimony, because he knew the group worked in both Europe and the US.

https://www.businessinsider.com/mueller-reveals-names-of-witnesses-paul-manafort-tried-to-tamper-with-2018-6

So, it was his own former colleague that understood what was going on and said 'no thanks' to the scheme.
