Inside the suspicious rise of gay hate crimes in Portland

Last month, Sophia Gabrielle Stanford was at the center of a fundraising campaign. The GoFundMe page described the trans activist as a victim of a “brutal and aggressively blatant hate crime” in which assailants had beaten her unconscious with a bat in southeast Portland.

The campaign and shocking story went viral. However, the police reports raise questions about what happened that night. ...

Within days, the number of alleged hate attacks ballooned through uncorroborated and vague online rumors. These stories were then amplified by progressive media, nonprofit groups, businesses and politicians. Activists, driven by their own personal grievances, then launched a crusade to find the phantom suspects, doxing and targeting innocent people in the process. ...

I spoke with staff at businesses along that intersection, but nobody I talked to had witnessed an attack. When Bruso’s post went viral on Facebook and commenters raised questions about the incident, she deleted the post.

“I, WE, owe you NOTHING,” Bruso wrote on Facebook. “The intention was to warn our communities and that’s precisely what I did.”

Bruso originally said the attack was “reported,” but Portland police stated in a report that there was no case number associated with the incident as of Feb. 27, 2019. I contacted Bruso several times by email asking where she reported the incident. She didn’t respond. ...

Did these crimes really happen? Wilfred Reilly, a political scientist at Kentucky State and author of the book “Hate Crime Hoax,” says the nonreporting and cinematic narrative are indications they might not have.

“If you were actually beaten by a group of homophobes, you’d go down to the precinct house before you’d go on Twitter and Facebook,” he says. Through his research, Reilly has collected more than 500 cases of American hate hoaxes concentrated mostly between 2013 and 2018.

Patterns he identifies among them are the lack of evidence, reluctance to cooperate with police, sensational claims, the presence of fundraising and the involvement of radical activists — all of which appear to be happening in Portland.  ...

Here's a real hate crime that happened to the daughter of a friend of mine at West Virginia University just a few days ago: a guy (presumably) came up to her, called her a homophobe and anti-fa* bigot, and then spit right into her mouth. The cops haven't found him yet, and she's had to undergo medical tests for whatever diseases someone like him might have (Hep, HIV, etc.). The "hate" part? She was wearing earrings whose shape he mistook for crosses.

I read Andy's Twitter thread on this topic yesterday.

I believe all this is a build up towards justifying (actual) violence and government sanctioned shunning of conservatives. I live in a leftist area of the country, and work for a big tech company largely run by leftists. I feel that I have to hide my conservative/libertarian political beliefs because if they are discovered, it could easily get me fired. Quite frankly, it's disturbing how bad things have gotten.

Soros Bankrolled Unverified ‘Hate Crime’ Database Used by Major Media Outlets
'Documenting Hate' receives data from SPLC, CAIR, and partners with more than 100 outlets
BY: Joe Schoffstall
March 27, 2019 5:00 am

Liberal billionaire George Soros bankrolled a massive "hate crime" database that is used by more than 100 media partners—including Google News Labs, New York Times Opinion, and ABC News—to report alleged hate crimes, according to tax documents and interviews.

The database, launched following the election of President Donald Trump, is "unverified" and receives stories of alleged "hate" from the likes of the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), an organization currently in upheaval over charges of institutional racism perpetrated by its recently fired co-founder, Morris Dees, and the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Muslim civil rights group that was previously listed as an unindicted co-conspirator of terrorism.

Media partners involved in the initiative have access to the unverified database, and use it to report stories of hate in the Trump era. ...

The best way to end "hate crimes" and related hoaxes would be to wipe the lawbooks clean of "hate crime laws".

Hate Crime Hoaxes and Why They Happen
    Mar, 2019
by Wilfred Reilly

On January 29, actor Jussie Smollett reported to police that he had been the victim of a vicious hate crime at around 2 a.m. in Chicago. Smollett, who is black and gay, claimed that two masked assailants yelled homophobic and racist insults, declared “This is MAGA country,” beat and kicked him, put a noose around his neck, and “poured an unknown liquid” on him before he managed to fight them off. All this in liberal Chicago during a polar vortex that had brought subzero temperatures. Showing support for Smollett in the wake of his unlikely story became a celebrated cause among progressive politicians and celebrities.  ...

Our nation is not racked with hate crimes. When people in positions of power or visibility say that it is, they should be rebuked for it. I have done a great deal of research on hate crimes in America, and the tragically underreported fact is that an enormous number of such incidents reported over the past decades turn out to have been hoaxes. ...  It’s difficult to think of a more compelling task for American scholars than to point out the dangerous lies behind this invented crisis.  ...

The deeper I delved, the more it seemed that this phenomenon of fake hate crimes did not appear to be small-scale or regionally isolated. I put together a fairly large database of hate-crime allegations—346 of them—by searching for relevant terms such as “hate crime,” “campus hate crime,” “hate crime allegation,” and “hate crime controversy” on Google, JSTOR, and Google Scholar. Over several years, I was able to confirm that fewer than a third of these cases could even possibly have been genuine hate crimes.  ...

Why would anyone fake a hate crime? The basic answers are fame, profit, and the advancement of a political ideology.  ...

Portland Crisis: With 120 Vacancies, Only 3 Out Of 60 Applicants Pass Police Background Check
by Brock Simmons
 April 3, 2019

Last month TGP reported that internal politics and a pro-antifa attitude inside the Portland Police Bureau leadership and city hall has led to an exodus of officers leaving the bureau, either retiring early or going to work for other agencies in the area. With 120 job openings, reports are now coming out that would-be new hires are failing pass the introductory background check. Bigly.

KOIN News reports:
Quote
The assistant chief told the City Commissioners that out of more than 60 people who applied for public safety specialist jobs, only 3 passed background checks. The biggest reasons for their disqualification is past drug use or dishonesty in their application.   ...

Michigan State Students Filed Bias Incident Reports Over Some Really Petty Things
"A student complains twice in three days that someone posted a cartoon making fun of liberals in a residence hall and it offended her."
Robby Soave|Apr. 5, 2019 5:05 pm

A Michigan State University student filed a bias response complaint because she read an offensive comment on an Instagram post: Someone had asked whether the women depicted in the photo looked "Indian."

Another student reported his roommate for watching a Ben Shapiro video on his laptop. "Ben Shapiro is known for his inflammatory speech that criticizes and attacks the African American community," the student wrote in his complaint. "I thought hate had no place on MSU's campus yet MSU has roomed me with someone who supports hate speach [sic]."  ...

That sounds fishy. I know gay people who wear crosses. The local gay pastor has a HUGE cross that he wears.

It really happened. I know this girl and her parents. The question was what the heck was going through the angry homosexual's pea-sized brain to mistake her "Ankh" earrings for "homophobia"?

True, there's a good chance he was under the influence of some sort of drug. Doesn't make her feel any better about having to be tested for various diseases he may have spread.
