7 Arguments For Legalizing Marijuana That No One Should Believe
There may be good reasons to legalize marijuana. But if there are, the following arguments shouldn’t be considered to be among them.

The move to legalize marijuana is gaining steam in the United States. Although we are still far from full legalization, public opinion has been shifting. An October 2018 poll conducted by the Pew Research Center found that 62 percent of Americans support marijuana legalization.

In the midst of the rush to legalize, defenders of pot legalization have made a variety of arguments. These arguments are often taken for granted and repeated as if they described settled facts. As it turns out, many fall apart under close examination.

Whatever you think about marijuana legalization, it’s important to avoid making bad arguments. There may be good reasons to legalize marijuana. But if there are, the following arguments shouldn’t be considered to be among them.

1. ‘Marijuana Is Harmless’

This is perhaps the worst argument in favor of legalization. ...

2. ‘Marijuana Legalization Is Pro-Liberty’

Many libertarians and a growing number of conservatives argue that legalization is the “pro-freedom” position. Actually, the exact opposite is true. ...

3. ‘Marijuana Legalization Will Increase Tax Revenue’

Any tax revenue generated by legalization will be outweighed by its social costs, which are several times greater than its alleged benefits.  ...[/quote]Read the entire article at The Federalist

--- Quote ---Politicians are pushing to legalize recreational marijuana in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, following 10 other states. But the Parent Teacher Association, local health officials and pediatricians are pushing back, warning about the permanent damage to youngsters’ brains caused by weed. ...

... But legalization doesn’t protect young people — black, white or others — from injury to their still-developing brains or the long-term effects of weed-caused school failure.

The Detroit NAACP joined health officials last fall to oppose legalization, insisting marijuana is a way to hold minorities “in bondage.”  ...

Adolescent pot users have trouble in school because they suffer memory impairment, loss of learning ability and reasoning skills and possibly a permanent decline in IQ, the institute reports. No wonder it’s called “dope.”

Marijuana damages the hippocampus area of the brain, which impacts memory. Scientists who tracked nearly 4,000 young adults into their 40s confirmed that marijuana use does lasting damage to memory, according to research in the Journal of the American Medical Association published in 2016. ...

The real problem is the local police departments don't have the manpower to go after offenders anymore.  Heck, locally if your house/car is robbed you are supposed to fill out an online form and a police officer MAY come by to fill out paper work.  Under staffed and they really don't even seem to care about MJ use anymore.

Someone on Twitter just clued me in to this book by NYT reporter Alex Berenson, in which he describes "the link between teenage marijuana use and mental illness, and a hidden epidemic of violence caused by the drug." I should think anyone who ingests marijuana owes it to himself to find out how harmful (or harmless) it truly is.

truth_seeker:
People use the weed, legal or not.

Adult focus should be on minimizing use by young people.  Also strong warning are needed, about the "Gateway" nature of addicting substances, in general.

tobacco leads to weed and alcohol,, which lead to cocaine meth, opiods, etc.

"Addictive" means difficult to stop and stay stopped.

If YOU are one that found it easy to stop, chances are you minimize addiction.
