When @pookie18 gets his new 'puter.

Hope your computer woes are soon over, @pookie18
We miss you, but I'm sure it is much harder on you than it is on us!

I want to post the toons that I'd saved b4 the PC went bad. If I can do that, I'll post a few double-sized (~100 images) versions on consecutive days. If I can't get those back, I'll start putting together what I've been saving into a thread hopefully in the beginning of the week beg. 3/18. You know that I post to several sites & it's a lot to do with this configuration & w/o all the bells & whistles.

If your computer won't boot because of a boot-sector problem on the disc, you can always burn a CD with a Linux bootable (or a thumbdrive) on you new machine.  Boot that puppy on the old machine and you can recover the files using Linux, even if the Windows is broken.  A Mac can do that too.

You can also remove the drive, connect it to a USB adapter and your new box will see it like a thumb drive.

These are above my paygrade. However, (as mentioned previously?), the guy doing this for me is the head of IT at Rutgers University...if it can be done, he can do it...

This calls for a poll!  "What are you doing without Pookie Toons every day?"

You are in good hands.  Better advice than I could ever give you, by far.

Here's an abbreviated version, but it deals with images that have already been posted.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
