The secret reason there are so many teachers’ strikes right now

by Resurgent Insider

If you’re a parent in Denver, Los Angeles, Oakland or West Virginia, odds are that already this year, you’ve dealt with striking teachers and the risk of having to take vacation or unpaid leave to look after your kids while educators picket.

If you’re a parent in Virginia or Georgia where teachers have rallied, you could face the same situation.

It all follows last year’s walkouts in Arizona, Colorado, Kentucky, North Carolina, Oklahoma and West Virginia.

What is going on here? Are teachers emboldened by Democratic wins at the ballot box? Are teachers’ unions urging more “industrial action” because Democratic Socialists are on the rise? Do they think they can get away with strikes now when they couldn’t have three or four years ago? Is this all legitimately about, as CNNsays, debates over “salaries and benefits to school infrastructure and class size to charter schools”?

Actually, according to education insiders, none of these are the root causes of what we’re seeing right now—and what we may see more of in the coming weeks and months.

The "teachers" in Arizona walked out after the Governor signed a bill giving them all they demanded.  After.

Same in W.Va. They got a 5% raise last year, and the Legislature was about to hand them another 5%, and for what? For children who consistently rank in the bottom three of the 50 states?

West Virginia Teachers, Parents: We’re Scared To Disagree With Striking Teachers Unions
Teachers' unions use children as bargaining chips, intimidating legislatures into giving them endless political power. So what do parents and teachers think of them when they can be honest?
By Jayme Metzgar
March 1, 2019

Last week, teachers in West Virginia staged a statewide strike for the second time in as many years. The 2018 walkout, which forced students to miss nine days of school and inspired copycat strikes across the nation, primarily focused on teachers’ salaries and benefits.

For the most part, the strong-arm tactics worked. Not only did teachers get a 5 percent raise last year, they were also promised an additional 5 percent raise in this year’s bill, along with other financial perks and amendments to their health plans.  ...

“Anyone who thinks differently than the unions has to endure tons of bullying,” she says. “I do not see any positive educational reforms happening in West Virginia until the unions have less power or until they are broken. Let the statistics speak for themselves. This state has the most powerful education unions in the country and yet is one of the lowest-performing states for education. If that isn’t confirmation that something needs changed, I don’t know what is.”

As for this year’s strike, she says it’s all about control. “Charter schools will employ teachers who are non-union, which threatens the union’s power,” she says. “That’s the bottom line reason for the strike against them.”  ...

Charter schools also expose the public schools and their bottom-ranking union teachers for what they are.  A rip off and a scam on taxpayers who are, nevertheless, forced to pay for their failing and underwhelming performance....and continued and ongoing failure to teach.  There is much more indoctrination to the leftist agenda going on than actual learning.

The Rat's response to Charter Schools:  Regulate the crap out of them until they perform as poorly as the District schools (unions or no unions).  They tried that in AZ.

It really is all about control.... and destroying the competition (in this case, destroying charter schools via regulations) is merely a weapon they are using or trying to use.

No problem. Give the teachers a wage competitive with what their peers are making in the private sector. Then take away their sweet retirement deals.

A carefree retirement was what they were originally promised in exchange for lower than average wages in the first place.

Yes... but.... a carefree retirement was not supposed to guarantee a "no accountability" career.  With unions, however, it always seems to do just that.

Last year?  How about last week.  Public schools in Louisville and Lexington, KY, were closed on Thursday due to a teachers' "sick out" in protest of a bill that restructures the oversight board for the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System.  And word on the street is that if the bill is signed by Gov. Bevin, they will walk out for the rest of the week.

A deal brokered by Jefferson County Public Schools and its teachers union to avert another "sickout"-induced shutdown has failed.

JCPS will be closed Tuesday, the fourth time in two weeks, the district announced Monday evening.

In AZ last year the "teachers" timed their walkout within a week or so of the last day of the school year, in order to threaten the entire Senior Classes with no Diplomas.  The kicker?  The Governor signed a bill the week before giving them all they wanted.  It was a done deal but they struck anyway.
