Trump’s two-hour, off-prompter CPAC speech gloriously kicked off his re-election campaign
By Thomas Lifson

No matter whether you have two minutes or two hours to spare, you need to catch up on what President Trump said yesterday, for it explains his re-election strategy. If you missed it, I have embedded below the entire 2-hour-and-2 minute-long speech to CPAC yesterday.  But this blog can be your cheat sheet if you are pressed for time.

His impromptu hugging of the American flag as he took the stage was the first indicator of the speech and campaign ahead:

By making fun of people with southern accents, and molesting an American Flag?   Yeah, that's the ticket.

Actually it wasn't impromptu .... this began during the 2016 campaign.  One of the first times was at the end of "God bless the USA" and captured what the crowd was feeling bringing chants of USA! USA! USA!.

I watched the speech and it's surprising how things get so twisted. I thought it was a great speech. Trump was having a lot of fun with the crowd and they were eating it up.

BTW, when did hugging the flag with a big smile become "molesting"?

Also, imitating the failure Sessions was not a shot at anyone else and to take it that way only shows a desire to misinterpret.

Trump is so different. He's direct. He's relentless. He attacks his opponents rather than leaving it to subordinates. It's refreshing.

Maybe I am old school, and from my old Boy Scout days, we were taught that the flag is to be given ultimate respect.

Have you ever seen or noticed when scouts. military, LEO's etc. put up and take down an American flag, how it handled like an egg, carefully handled, and folded?  To me.....    That is how someone should address or consdier the flag.  Not hug it like a loved one.

Agree.  He spoke for over two hours and the crowd was listening and responding to every word.

And not only is he relentless in attacking opponents and their "ideas"  @bilo  .... he often does it with LOL humor.  What better way to ridicule the Green New Deal than with this:  "Darling, is it windy today?  I'd like to watch television"?

I, too, thought the speech was great ... one of his best and a powerful opening salvo in the 2020 campaign.   :patriot:

Is it possible that your perception is biased.

I saw Trump hug the flag when he walked out and took it as a symbolic act indicating he loved the USA. I didn't think he meant any disrespect.

When Trump imitated Sessions I didn't think he was making fun of southerners and I don't think the crowd did as well. I thought the crowd groaned because of their dislike for Sessions.

We are seeing the same event and perceiving it differently.

I saw a brief clip that I thought was hilarious. He was mocking the GND and said, "Darling, is the wind blowing today? I'd like to watch a little TV."

Made me laugh.

Probably right

I don't think he deliberately tried to disrespect the flag. he just seems to be gaffe prone.

I thought I heard some booing when he did the accent.  No way to know what the crowd intent really was.  As much some might not want to admit...   Trump is not a conservative, and I'd be willing to bet that there was at least a moderate contention of those there who aren't really big fans.

I disagree, of course.

President Trump is not a political ideologue.  He's apolitical.

But he's soaked in Conservative principles in terms of free-market capitalism, low taxes for small business and middle class, minimum government intrusions in terms of regulations, etc..

And his choice of judges.  They're center or right-of-center.   I'll take it.

I'm there for him in 2020....with bells on.

Which is why he is heads above the likes of Warren, Sanders, or whatever socialist the dim party throws out there in 2020.

I might not have bells on, but I will hold my nose and vote for Trump.

FWIW, I didn't vote for him the first time around, but definitely will the second.

That goes for me as well. He still hacks me off, sometimes. But the other side is plain nuts, and growing loonier - and more dangerous - by the day.

Good speech.  IMHO, not his best.  I have only watched a couple of his speeches.  His SOTU being his best.  I thought that he seemed off. My first impression was the he had a few too many drinks beforehand.

One issue that was absolutely lacking, and I'm surprised that it doesn't seem to matter anymore.  He made NO promise of completing his big glorious wall.  He is no longer making that promise. How can he we he just signed a really bad bill that allows states to opt out?  Even IF his emergency declaration goes through, with states opting out, the wall will NOT be completed.  Never will be.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
