Why I feel sorry for Jussie Smollett
By Fr. Edward L. Beck
Feb 22, 2019

I feel sorry for Jussie Smollett. There, I’ve said it. Remove your arrows from their quivers now and shoot them my way.

If Smollett’s alleged crime of orchestrating his own attack and making a false report to Chicago police that he was the victim of a hate crime is determined to be true, then he is indeed among the most pitiable of men.

But if pity is the feeling of sorrow and compassion caused by the suffering and misfortunes of others, then why should we feel it for Smollett? He caused the suffering and misfortune, and potentially has put victims of real hate crimes at risk.

True, there is no rational justification for what Smollett may have done, but I can’t help but wonder, what kind of pain and desperation may have led him to do so?

It has been reported by Chicago police that Smollet’s motivation was an increase in salary as an actor on the Fox series “Empire” and to further his career. If that was the only reason, it is indeed an extreme and malevolently calculated tactic that warrants little sympathy. Hiring a better agent would have been more prudent and a lot less damaging, especially to true victims of hate crimes.

@mystery-ak

None. It was pure arrogance and his sense of entitlement that led to this.

I feel it is just spin for him to say it was for "more money"... I think the real reason is his hatred of conservatives in general.

Of course it was. The media is looking for any other story line to deflect the real reasons they were so delighted to report this farce.

I think Dex said over on the other thread that all publicity is good publicity.   So what's the problem with trying to incite a race war to promote one's career?

GLAAD did, I posted a link on another Small-head thread.  The goal was $1,000, the take is $500, and they posted they're returning any donations if asked.

It was more than good enough for Obama's BS Legacy.

Knowledgable authorities, have stated that 18-19 year old entering freshmen have the minds of 13-15 year olds.

Then during college, they merely get deep liberal grievance indoctrination.

Some feel sorry for the great, great, great, great grand children of laves, making $1+ million a year for playing games or for acting.

I don't feel sorry for them.

Adults like Obama, endorse said grievance society, instead of dispel it (like they should have done).

Common sense is no longer common.

$500????   That wouldn't fund a decent Circle Jerk for those guys.

Interesting point.

I think I recall Catholic Priests in films of 50 years ago being teachers, or at least members, in Boxing Gyms instead of the near Androgenous types we see today.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
