The United Nations estimates that nearly 4 million Venezuelans have fled the country, or nearly 10% of the population. The migrant crisis there is worse than the migrant caravans leaving Central America to test Trump's patience at the border.

Neumann’s family has all left Caracas. “My brother left three years ago. He got sick of bringing his daughter to school walking through tear gas from time to time,” she says. “I have friends there. They are not from the upper class like me. I can tell you that all of them living through this destruction of Venezuela have no patience with socialism. It’s a collective trauma. Those who survive there are living on dollars. The horrors of Chavismo have become a unifying force in Venezuela,” she says.
