Nike Investigating Zion Williamson's Shoe Malfunction vs. UNC
Sports Illustrated, Feb 21, 2019, Associated Press

NEW YORK  — Nike says it’s investigating why Duke freshman Zion Williamson split a shoe open during a game against rival North Carolina. But the sportswear giant says it’s an “isolated occurrence.”

The Beaverton, Oregon-based company says it’s concerned and says quality and performance of its products are of “utmost importance.”

The shoe malfunction, which forced Williamson to leave the game with a knee sprain, happened in front of a crowd of celebrities, including former President Barack Obama and Spike Lee.

Williamson’s left shoe fell apart as he planted hard near the free throw line. The blue rubber sole ripped loose from the white shoe from the heel to the toes along the outside edge, with Williamson’s foot coming all the way through the large gap.

Nike quickly became the target of ridicule on social media, which presents challenges for the sportswear brand.

Nikes are pretty much crap anymore. Mr. M worked at the Beaverton HQ many years ago and can attest to the decline in the quality of the same model of running shoe - the one he always used to wear for marathons - over the decades.  He's wearing adidas now.
I have decided to officially and formally not apologize. I'm not sorry at all, even slightly.

Indeed, I especially want to convey my absence of remorse to anyone who was offended by what I said. If you are the sort of person who gets twisted into knots when someone articulates a point of view that differs from your own, then you are exactly the sort of person who should never receive an apology for a differing point of view — if I were offering one, which, again, I'm not.

Lessee here. I am going to go out on a limb and suggest they failed because they were made in China.

Do I win anything for stating what should be obvious even to Ray Charles as he lies in his grave?

I thought they were made in Vietnam. No matter. Slave laborers don't give a crap about the quality of the work product.

What did Michael Jordan know, and when did he know it?

Some people claim that there's a woman to blame.
