About a third of the $8 billion President Donald Trump has secured for a border wall via his national emergency declaration will likely be funneled into barriers in Webb and Zapata counties, according to Laredo’s Rep. Henry Cuellar.

About a third of the $8 billion President Donald Trump has secured for a border wall via his national emergency declaration will likely be funneled into barriers in Webb and Zapata counties, according to Laredo's Rep. Henry Cuellar.

Cuellar on Tuesday told local media that the Department of Homeland Security has plans to build 130 miles of border barriers in Border Patrol's Laredo sector. This means the barriers could stretch along most of the border in Webb and Zapata counties.

It would take place in two phases, with a combined cost of over $3 billion, Cuellar said. The first phase would be 55 miles in "Laredo West" and "Laredo North." The second would be 75 miles in "Laredo North," "Laredo South" and "Laredo Zapata."
