With Amazon NYC 'second HQ' deal canceled, Ocasio-Cortez now officially is a huge problem for Dems
By Thomas Lifson

Move over, Speaker Pelosi, and make room for New York governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio as Democrats waking up to the disaster the rise of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is inflicting on the Democratic Party.  She is no longer just a potential threat to their schemes and operating principles; she has taken a wrecking ball to them.  Trust me: they desperately want to be rid of her, but, due to her media presence and popularity with the young and ignorant, cannot visibly stick the shiv in her back.  So Nancy Pelosi's ability to "cut your head off and you won't even know you're bleeding" (as her own daughter put it) will come in handy.

The Amazon tax breaks, calculated to be worth $3 billion over a period of many years, were going to bring 25,000 high-paying jobs to Ocasio-Cortez's district in Queens and generate many times that sum in increased tax receipts, according to Cuomo and de Blasio, who exulted over the deal.  But offering any kind of benefit to a big corporation founded and headed by the richest man in the world is anathema to the radical left.

Ocasio-Cortez may not fully realize that her political party is now the party of big business, trading government favors of all sorts for massive political donations (and censorship of conservatives on internet forums controlled by the tech giants).

She has the innate "knack" or instinct to get media attention, with snappy messages.

(Trump has that, too.)

Now let the dems try to manage her, develop her, use hher, shut her up.

I feel many Republicans want her to go on, and on. Like a child's battery toy, which continues whirling on the floor.

You go, girl !! And go, and go, and go !

I agree.  Very, very bad optics and some real consequences of stupid actions.

  • Cruz 2016- a Constitutional Conservative at last!
I saw a clip of her speaking about her "victory." She looked totally insane. She was hunched over and her eyes were full on sapaku. She spoke as if in wonder at her power. She said something like "the little people can win over the richest man is the world." You could see the tiny wheels in what passes for her brain (sort of rotten and insane). She will be even more motivated to take down the country.

Fascinating times. Scott Adams opined the media had selected Kam Harris for us, but he also suggests that AOC has the knack for messaging on a par with Trump.

His take on current events will be quite a treat.

Let's watch to see if Trump can 'handle' her?

Let's watch to see if Pelosi can 'handle' her?

Let's watch to see if "the media" can keep her alive, or if they help to kill her off at the behest of their dem buddies?

Sad thing is, if this broad runs for re-election, voters will probably vote her back in.  This, my friends, is the present-day Democrat Party -- radical, far-left and socialist/communist.  The more "moderate" Democrats are going to have to adapt or fall by the wayside.  We have a whole generation indoctrinated in radical, socialist/commie thought, all of whom denounce corporations as evil and believe the gubmint should take care of them.  This younger generation is rejecting the old-guard Democrats in favor of youngsters like AOC who were taught the same things.

And, in the long term, this is good. Many of those young people will mature over time.  They Alexandria Cortez’s willl still be stuck in their same bubble.

Why should NY gov give Amazon 3 billion dollars? If Amazon wants to move to NYC they can just
move to NYC. I don't think bribing a company like Amazon is a good thing. And how did Amazon get
away with paying zero income tax on 11 billion in profit?

The tax credits and write-offs for stock-based compensation that enabled the "Zero tax" for Amazon were passed by Congress.

You want to blame some one look to congress.

That’s . . . that’s not how this works. At all. There is no $3B exchange from one entity to another.

Sevveral valid questions lie in this question.

--But 25,000 jobs are good for NY and the company and employees would pay many taxes, incl. state, local, sales and property tax. State, local, city income taxes. et.

Amazon merely plays by the rules, including tax laws, that politicians enact.

People still need jobs, even in AOC wrongly runs her mouth.

There is probably political advantage for the GOP, if they can execute thereon.
