Obama declared a national emergency for the flu.

(Not kidding).

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/oct/24/swine-flu-barack-obama

There's been 40 plus national emergencies declared since For signed the act into law in 1976 (Ford used it him self too.)

Over 30 of the "emergencies" and the actions taken because of them are still in effect.

As long as there is no opposition party everything they try WILL work.

I cannot believe the GOP allowed this bill to get to the president.

@skeeter it passed 83-16 in the Senate.  Remember McConnell said he's sign any bill that avoided a shutdown and kept the President from declaring a national emergency.

Well here we are.

Given the wide margin by which it passed in the Senate even if he vetoes it (which I think he should) that veto would get overridden and it would become law.

Personally...I think he should hold a press conference in the Rose Garden and burn the damn thing in front of the reporters and all the cameras tat are there.

I expect Trump will attempt the nat'l emergency route, but this vote in the senate just about finishes any hope I had that the GOP will ever redeem itself and actually begin representing their voters.

A non uniformed army is doing all those things as we speak.  And you damned well know it.

Really?  A nonuniformed army operating under the flag and protection of another sovereign has entered without permission, and is now occupying physical real estate and is governing that real estate and the people captured on it under laws that were not enacted by the federal or a state government?

Enough votes were there to pass the bill, but it's not a given those would be the vote counts to override the Veto.

This really isn’t an emergency, national or otherwise.

I suggest you look up Brandon Darby, a native Texan, and a reporter.
He has been reporting on this long before Trump was elected.
You may change your opinion as to whether or not this is an emergency.

It is actually a national emergency for at least two countries, the US and Mexico.
You could correctly call it an international emergency.

It’s not unexpected, and it doesn’t call for immediate action, it calls for carefully considered action.  It’s not an emergency except in the make-believe sense.

Make believe?
Those who have been harmed by the cartels and the coyotes would disagree.
Angel moms would disagree.
One whole political party, and most of the media ignoring it, doesn't make it less of an emergency.

Why do you say that?

Because it's not an emergency, that's why.

It's a problem, and a big problem. But it's not an emergency.

Perhaps its not, but if it isn't then certainly neither were ANY of these.

Exactly so.

Looking at the list of declared emergencies over the past 100 years I'd say it is among the MOST, if not the most, worthy of being called a 'national emergency'.

Unless you consider US investment in Burma or importing diamonds from Sierra Leone really big deals.

No, it's not.

It is to people who live in the Southern Border States and have lost loved ones to Murder.

If calling it an "emergency", national or otherwise, is what is required to get the azzholes on the left to cooperate towards handling the illegal migrant invasion...

then so frickin be it.  I'd be willing to call it pretty much anything as long as the end result is STOPPING the damned invasion.

And that is exactly the excuse the democrats will use in 2021 when the next democrat president declares climate change a national emergency, following the new Trump precedent.

Will you be as supportive then as you are now of Trump’s brainchild?

The democrats are going to do what they're going to do.  They may blame Trump, they may blame any number of loosely related or not at all related people and issue.
