Permian Basin produces prosperity for the entire state
« on: February 11, 2019, 02:47:59 am »
Midland Reporter Telegram By Ben Shepperd President, Permian Basin Petroleum Association 2/10/2019

Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott delivered to a joint session of the Texas Legislature, his "State of the State" address. Flanked by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Speaker Dennis Bonnen, the governor outlined his vision for the future of Texas.

We are thankful the governor noted early and often throughout the speech about the impact that the oil and gas community has provided the entire state. We are, and should continue to be, proud of that fact, and we applaud Gov. Abbott for his support of the industry.

Because of the Permian Basin, Texas remains the greatest state in the entire nation to live, work, start a business or raise a family. In the last four years, it should be no surprise that Texas has earned the "Governors Cup," a distinction reserved for the state that leads the nation in new and expanded business facilities.

As Abbott said, "America will be energy-independent by next year [and] one word makes energy independence possible: Texas"

Mont Belvieu is booming due to the Permian Basin.  We are building as fast as we can trying to keep up with the pipelines and drilling.

So many workers they cannot park in the facilities.  The rent/buy property a mile or two away and bus them in.

The Permian basin has for many decades been the premier oil and gas producing basin, so that is not new.

What is new is the increased current emphasis to drill wells there - precipitated by the use of horizontal wells.

The Permian has been woefully behind the times.  When the rest of America was accelerating the usage of horizontal well technology, operators in the Permian was still plugging along drilling vertical wells.

So in actuality, the Permian is strong now as it is 'catching up'.

There are a few RV places where guys (mostly) drop a trailer to stay close by.

But for the most part, we are too close to the population area (East side of Houston).  We are close enough for most to commute.

The man-camps are more for remote areas that need more workers than the local population can provide.
