All of those real estate speculators who snatched up Queens real estate late last year are about to be very unhappy.

In what some might describe as a "dick move", Amazon is reportedly reconsidering its plans to open a sprawling new corporate headquarters in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens after New York State lawmakers who are opposed to the lucrative package of "performance based incentives" threatened to sabotage the deal, according to a report in the Washington Post.

The report adds to the pressure on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to put a stop to a lawmakers' nomination to a state board that could give him authority to unilaterally kill the incentives package.

Since the final package of state and city incentives isn't expected to be approved until 2020, Amazon executives are reportedly questioning whether it's worth the risk for the company to hope that restive lawmakers don't kill the deal.

If the Marxist Gov was worried about revenues before, wait till he looses this golden goose. Expect AOC to meet with a nail gun suicide in the near future.

"Netflix has shelled out a whopping $10 million for the rights to broadcast a documentary that follows the primary campaign of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez", let's see if this softens her opposition.

The Rats will probably offer $20 Mill not to run it. The only reason she won is because of the messed up NY State election laws. Not because she did anything impressive.

Bezo should pack his bags and zip his fly and pick another city for his HQ2.  NY is not the place to be.

Cuomo is flipping desperate to land this. It's hilarious and sad at the same time. Meanwhile Bezos is simply using the city of New York to curry favor and build influence.

Just hopefully they won't come to Texas, we've already got too many liberals moving here.

These opponents are nuts.  They are probably the same ones who cry about a lack of employment opportunities.   Then along comes a company like Amazon which could potentially employ thousands, but they don't want a major company because of "overreach," whatever the hell that is.

I guess Miz Castro and those like her want jobs, but only if the employer is the government.  Communism anyone?

Context, though: this is New York City. It's a thriving metropolis and there are plenty of jobs there. In fact, real estate is so expensive there already because of it. That's the only reason Amazon actually came. They had no interest in turning around a struggling community, only walking into an already thriving one and taking advantage of it.

If Amazon had chosen Binghamton (which has tech history as IBM's former home), they'd be embraced with open arms. But that was never what HQ2 was all about.

I could never figure out the Long Island City choice. Why New York City?

Upstate (as JMyrle mentioned) would be a better choice. Perhaps in the Albany-Schenectady corridor.

Or perhaps along the Connecticut "Gold Coast". I wonder who's in the old GE headquarters in Fairfield, since GE moved out?

How is this Amazon's fault?

She won the election because that District has some of the most effed up voters on the planet.  The guy she beat was, what, Pelosi's puppet?

The fact that they are offering these hefty incentives is an open admission that their current policies are business killers.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

I've seen the ads for New York on Fox Business Channel where they boast low taxes for new businesses, and a businessman who decides to relocate to NY for a 10-year break on taxes would be certifiable, unless he intends to pull our of NY before the hourglass runs out.

Maybe the lure of the move would make more sense if the state was not run by the 2nd most heinous group of democrats in the union.

@Cyber Liberty

What happened is, the Dem that had the job (don't remember his name), had held the seat for so many years, he never campaigned just got reelected.  So, he didn't campaign, she knocked on doors, and won.

A lot of corporations are run by gangs with green eyeshades who are only interested in short-term gains that help the books.  Companies like that almost always fail eventually, like Motorola.  The Big Three carmakers were almost killed off in the 70's, but they realized the mistake and installed "car guys" (Engineers) on the Executive Boards.

I just left a big company that is going down that road, which was why I gladly took a voluntary layoff.  One of my best Scientist friends followed me out the door by taking an early retirement too.

Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren celebrate Amazon canceling New York headquarters amid backlash

Quote
Earlier this month, Ocasio-Cortez trashed the plan – which had promised to create 25,000 jobs and over $27.5 billion in tax revenue in 25 years – and called on "everyday people" to "effectively organize against creeping overreach of one of the world’s biggest corporations."

Congratulations, y'all.  You just destroyed what could have been a major economic boon for Long Island and the state of New York.

Hahahahaha.

Yeah, that's if you believe Bezos and assume he actually was going to fulfill the promises, like so many others hadn't. See: Elon Musk in Buffalo.

It's amazing that the same people who, for good reason, don't believe anything in The Washington Post will wholelheartedly believe the same guy if he promises jobs as part of some megaproject in the one part of the state of New York where he wasn't even wanted.
