Graham: There Could Be GOP 'War’ Over Border Wall
« on: February 04, 2019, 07:19:14 pm »
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) warned on Monday that there could be a “war” among Republicans if President Trump declared a national emergency to build the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Graham, speaking in South Carolina, acknowledged that the idea divides Republicans, who he argued should unite behind the president if he ends up circumventing Congress to build the wall.

"It seems to me that he's gonna have to go it alone, but there could be a war within the Republican Party over the wall," Graham said.

Problem is, I thing that the GOPe outnumbers the GOP and Trump would lose this issue among his own.  The mid terms are over, so those GOPe who are seated don't have any reason to appease their constituents.

There are other ways to accomplish the wall as pointed out by several other posters in here, without having to declare a national emergency.

It's not so much cheap labor @skeeter as it is easily bought votes.

For the left, yes. But any wall "war" within the GOP will be between the chamber of commerce checked pants establishment Paul Ryan types and the rank 'n file voter.

K Street is calling the tune!  That is a 100% certainty!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Lets have at it!

The GOPe cost us the House and they will lose the Senate in 2020 if they don't get behind Trump on the wall and immigration reform.

Illegal immigration is similar to the H1-B scam. People who come into the country with H1-B visa's are here legally only as long as their employer keeps them on the job. Illegals don't have any right to be here so if they are working there are no protections for them and no one to complain to if they are taken advantage of. If we want to do the right thing we should control our borders and only people with a legal right to work here should be employed. If we do that then everyone has a legal recourse if they are being taken advantage of. As it is now, the establishment Pubs like the under the table situation because it creates a pliable, cheap labor source. The Rats like it because they get the illegals votes and they get their children's votes when they can legally vote.

The GOPe are no different than the businessmen who sold scrap metal to the Japanese before WWII. Eventually, that metal was used to attack us. The open borders crowd see the benefits now, but in the end this unending wave of unassimilated illegals will be the end of the republic. Capitalism (whats left if it) will be replaced with full throated socialism.

Then you must really love what this guy had to say about H1-B visas a couple weeks back.

I'm with you, Frank.

Bring it on.

Let the chips fall where they may.

This is the only way the border barrier will ever stand a chance of being built.

You can't win if you don't try.
So, Mr. Trump... give it a try!

Just because I support Trump doesn't mean I back everything he says or does. It really is disingenuous to expect anyone to agree with someone else 100% of the time.

No, what is disingenuous is to buy into the idea Trump meant things he said in the campaign. During the primary, he pummeled Cruz over H1–B visas. Chain migration has to end, according to him. Seems like it was fine to get his in-laws here. He’s plainly a hypocrite on those issues. After the election, he immediately backtracked on any investigation into Hillary. Until the midterms decided control of the House, he never made any serious effort to fight Congress for wall funding.
