Groundhog Day results
« on: February 02, 2019, 09:12:24 AM »
http://www.fullervision.net/groundhog.html

All in all, the vast majority of groundhogs (including the notoriously shadow-happy Punxsutawney Phil) have not seen their shadow this morning. Ostensibly, this is supposed to be a harbinger of early spring, but if the rodents' track record is any indication, it's more likely that we have more winter coming.
  • Punxsutawney Phil: no shadow
  • Dunkirk Dave (western NY): no shadow
  • Three downstate NY groundhogs (Staten Island Chuck, Malverne Mel, Holtsville Hal): no shadow
  • Shubenacadie Sam (Nova Scotia): shadow seen
  • Fred the Marmot of Val-d'Espoir, Quebec: shadow seen
  • Buckeye Chuck (Ohio): No shadow
  • Woody (Howell, Michigan): No shadow
  • Wiarton Willie (Ontario): No shadow

I didn't realize there was more than one winter forecasting groundhog.

Most are silly knockoffs, but in central Pennsylvania, there are several... and although Punxsutawney's believed to be the first, there are a few that go back almost as far. The Germans brought the tradition over from their native country when they came here.

More are coming in.

Most of the ones in the midwest (Jimmy in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; Woodstock Willie in Illinois) are not seeing their shadows. The South seems to be a clean sweep: all the ones I've found saw their shadows.

Santa's helpers.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

Quit worrying about what the damned groundhog did or didn't see and go spent 5 minutes (7 pages) educating yourself!

Chill. It's a piece of silliness, nothing more and nothing less. If you want to goad me into a fight, start ranting about the FairTax or birtherism on some other thread.

P.S. I "educate myself" just fine without others trying to force their wrong viewpoints on me, thank you very much.

We're up to our a$$es in prognosticating rodents.
I have decided to officially and formally not apologize. I'm not sorry at all, even slightly.

Indeed, I especially want to convey my absence of remorse to anyone who was offended by what I said. If you are the sort of person who gets twisted into knots when someone articulates a point of view that differs from your own, then you are exactly the sort of person who should never receive an apology for a differing point of view — if I were offering one, which, again, I'm not.

And none of'em are all that good, either.

And then there's the groundhog that NYC Mayor Bill von Wilhelm Mao Lenin DeBlasio killed...
