So, six more weeks of winter or no?

Groundhogs Day is February 2.

The real question concerning groundhogs popping up is .223 Remington or .243 Winchester?

I feel sorry for the Punxsutawney Groundhog.  Dragged out of his nice warm burrow into the cold to have bright lights shined on him -- can't be a pleasant experience.  But it's a tradition that brings in visitors from all over and is a major boost to this sleepy town's economy.

Funny thing is that whether he sees his shadow or not, his prediction is correct.  Sees his shadow -- 6 more weeks of winter.  But technically, by the calendar spring does come within 6 weeks of Groundhog Day.  So he's correct.  Doesn't see his shadow -- spring is just around the corner.  A prediction sufficiently vague enough to be correct no matter what.

Yeah, it's silly, but the townspeople have fun with it. so what harm is there -- well, except to annoy the groundhog.

Option missing. One should be that some Pennsyltucky red necks shoot the Groundhog and eat him.

I have a 12 Ga. Remmie 1100 for that, and it would not leave enough of the carcass to eat.  I suppose I could go with the Judge (.410) but I can't hit the broad side of a barn past 15 ft, so I'd end up riddling the carcass anyway.  Don't ask how it went when I was after a Cottontail with a 16 Ga.

@Freya

I believe Phil did not see his shadow -- hence, the early spring production.

But no matter.  After a grueling 3 days of horribly cold weather, western PA is about to get a taste of spring for at least the next few days.  Temperatures may be around 50 or so.  I'll take it.

I sure hope you and everyone else in this bleeping polar vortex get some spring real soon too.

@Applewood

Fixed you are right. I saw the story as soon as I woke up and posted half asleep no coffee.

I never post without drinking my coffee.  :thud:

Thanks.  But it really was no big deal.  I'm just happy that we are getting out of the deep freeze.

I can't drink coffee anymore, but back when I did, I couldn't use lack of morning coffee as an excuse. I could mess up things anytime of day with or without coffee.    LOL
