it's simple....Montana is part of the USA and subject to the same laws as every other state.

Howabout bullcrap. That removes federalism and state sovereignty entirely. That is not how it is designed.

If it's literature of a certain faith, then the same opportunity needs to be applied to all faiths......you know this to be true just don't want to accept it

I'm a Catholic.....I went to parochial schools.....I can guarantee I have spent 10X as much time wrapped in religious material as you.....I still go to church.....I just don't buy what the bible belt bible thumpers try to push.......to us Catholics, you're all heathens anyway

Bible belt thumpers??   :silly: :silly:

It's literature.  It's poetry.  And teaching it in High School is not even remotely the State establishing a religion.

Perhaps a little more time in study of the Constitution would do you some good.

the first amendment applies the same everywhere......that's how it was designed.....this incremental notion that it can be interpreted in a way that applies differently from state to state is just

but based on your reasoning, you would be completely against Trump's 50 state right to conceal carry initiative, correct?

so then there won't be an issue including poetry from the qu'ran and the torah as well as other faiths

You're batting a thousand here on TBR so far.

School District of Abington Township v. Schempp says teaching about a religion is ok, preaching is not.

I am curious what the reaction of some would be if the thread was “Barack Obama touts proposed Koran literacy  classes in state schools?”
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Sorry for not taking you seriously, but I'm still laughing that you think Montana and Ohio are in the "Bible belt."

Sorta makes everything else you say suspect.

Methinks that WE are not the "narrow minded" ones, but as always, you liberals are.......   happy77

legally, it wouldn't the bases of the first amendment and the separation of church and state in schools boils down to one thing: Public schools must respect the religious beliefs of the students they serve while not showing favoritism for any particular religious belief.

it'll work as long as nobody says anything....once somebody does say something, a 1st year law student would be able to put the kabosh on the bible class or koran class or any other signularly religious class

You would have a case of every single religious belief wanting their representation in public school curriculum. It may get to the point that then public schools do nothing but teach religion instead of  math, science, history etc.

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.
