Sheila Jackson Lee Resigns from Head of Congressional Black Caucus

By Jim E | January 23, 2019 12:38PM

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has resigned from the top post of the Congressional Black Caucus following a former employee’s accusation that she was fired for reporting a rape.

Sexual assault coverup in the Congressional Black Caucus?

Recently, a lawsuit was filed by a former aide to Rep. Lee, alleging that she was fired after reporting that an employee of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation raped her. (RELATED: A New Lawsuit Claims Sheila Jackson Lee Fired A Staffer To Cover Up A Rape.) The litigant says that Lee deliberately fired her after she let it be known that she was planning to sue the Foundation.

Lee has stayed relatively quiet on the issue. But, her silence wasn’t enough to ward off some pressure to step down. And, according to the New York Times, Lee is stepping away from not just one but two powerful positions in Congress.

Sheila Jackson Lee Resigns from Key Posts After Being Sued for Retaliation Against Staffer
Breitbart, Jan 23, 2019

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) will resign from two high-profile positions after being sued for retaliation against a staffer, according to a Wednesday report.

The New York Times states Jackson will resign as chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and temporarily step down from her House Judiciary subcommittee chairmanship.

The Times, citing officials familiar with the matter, reports some of the foundation’s board members told Jackson Lee last week that she would face a “vote of removal” if she did not resign.

The staffer, identified as Jane Doe, alleges she was raped by a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation intern coordinator, Damien Jones, in 2015. The unnamed plaintiff said she has evidence, including text message, telephone conservations, and DNA to prove the encounter occurred. According to the accuser, she was fired from her position in March 2018 after notifying the Texas Democrat’s chief of staff, Glenn Rushing, that she intended to take legal action against the foundation. The lawsuit states she was let go several weeks later, citing “budgetary issues.”

I think in SJL's case, there is all sorts of stuff that the lid has been kept on, barely, and this is the one that's finally getting traction.

Nets Ignore Dem Forced to Step Down, Accused of Mishandling Rape Accusation
By Nicholas Fondacaro | January 23, 2019 8:29 PM EST

In the latest example of the liberal broadcast networks burying the scandals Democratic politicians, ABC, CBS, and NBC ran away at full speed from Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who was forced to step down from key posts Wednesday following accusations she mishandled a rape allegation by a female staffer. This, after they pushed aside the breaking news last week.

“Democratic Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee, of Texas, is stepping down from two major roles as she fights off criticism of her handling of a sexual assault claimed by a former aide,” reported anchor Bret Baier during Wednesday’s Special Report on the Fox News Channel. “Jackson Lee is giving up the chairmanship of a key House Judiciary subcommittee. She is also resigning as chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.”

Lee announced her moves after receiving pressure from her colleagues in recent days. “Lee’s office denies any retaliation or mistreatment of that woman,” Baier added. ...  Newsbusters

... Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) made a habit of demanding President Trump’s resignation, so this is certainly interesting news:

Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is reportedly resigning as chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and as chair of a congressional subcommittee amid allegations she retaliated against a former staffer who claimed she was raped by a foundation supervisor.

Both BuzzFeed and The New York Times report Jackson Lee will leave as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, a non-profit group closely aligned with the Congressional Black Caucus.

She will also leave her position temporarily as chair of a House Judiciary subcommittee.

The Democrat came under pressure last week to resign her posts after she was accused in a Jan. 11 lawsuit of retaliating against a former staffer who claimed she was sexually assaulted by Damien Jones, a former intern supervisor at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

The woman, who goes by Jane Doe in the court filings, claims she was raped by Jones in October 2015, when she was an intern at the foundation. . . .

The woman began working in November 2017 as a staffer for Jackson Lee. According to her lawsuit, she asked Jackson Lee’s chief of staff in March 2018 to meet with the lawmaker to discuss her alleged rape. The meeting never occurred, and the woman was fired soon after from Jackson Lee’s office.

Shouldn’t the “believe women” narrative Democrats used against Brett Kavanaugh apply to Jane Doe, who was allegedly raped by a Democrat, and fired when she reported it to the Democrat congresswoman?  ... More
