TRUMP CONSIDERING ADDING A 25% TAX TO ALL NON-AMERICAN CARS
« on: January 21, 2019, 02:08:40 am »

U.S President Donald Trump is reported to be considering the implementation of a 25% tariff on the purchase of all cars built outside of the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The motivation for the proposed tax increase appears to primarily be centred around strengthening the President’s position in ongoing trade deals, as well as pushing more Americans towards American-built cars.

Currently, the tariff on purchasing imported vehicles in the U.S sits at 2.5%. Were this figure to be raised to the proposed 25%, the estimated increase in price on non-American cars would be - on average - $6,000. Of course, for more premium cars this number would be significantly higher. For example, with the new tax in place, the cost of purchasing McLaren’s entry-level sports car - the 570S - would increase by over $40,000.

So now GM products will suck even more.

It says all cars built outside of the US, Mexico, or Canada.  That includes GM cars built in China.  It does not include Toyotas made in Indiana.

What about investments? What if most investments into a [begin huge air quote] non-American car company [end huge air quote] are by Americans?

You must be one of those free market Conservative types.  Better get on board the Trump Train.  Conservatism is so 'yesterday'.

There is no such thing as a free market. Govt' have been involved products being imported/exported for as long as anyone can remember.
