Most Common Last Name in Every State
« on: January 10, 2019, 03:25:07 pm »
https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/did-you-know/most-common-last-name-in-every-state/ar-BBQOED0?ocid=spartandhp

Summary: most of the top three common last names in each state are some combination of Smith, Jones, Williams, Miller, Johnson or Brown. Most of the southwestern states have one Hispanic name in the top three.

The only one that has no non-Hispanic names in the top three? California.

Well I guess if one is going to change names to blend in, a good ole Jeff Smith name would make it hard for someone to hunt you down from all the others.

Smith Johnson Miller Brown? In some order or another? I'm not so sure about this.... With the scandinavian names common in ND, Johnson maybe, (Howard got around), but Smith/Miller/Brown not so much. No Hanson to Anderson or Larson? Hmmmm.

From another site, in North Dakota, the top 10:

1. Johnson
2. Anderson
3. Olson
4. Nelson
5. Miller
6. Larson
7. Peterson
8. Smith
9. Hanson
10. Thompson

Which looks a lot more like the ones I have seen so often.
