Canada is decidedly more left than us, but they manage not to cause us problems. There are enough people in Central American countries that really do want something better to make a difference, if they really wanted it. We fought a Revolution and Civil War to attain it. They may need to, as well.

My leftist friends claim that those coming in from Canada are more dangerous than those coming through the southern border..... more terrorists, that is.

How does one counter that claim?

You don’t.  You can’t fix stupid.  No argument, no matter how fact based, will have any impact on their utopian world view.  It’s best to just not have leftist friends.

By not hanging out with patently stupid people like that.

I don't.  Hell, I even cut leftie relatives out of my life!   Don't need the blood pressure issue.   :silly:

It is impossible for me to recognize Trump as effective.  When the wall gets built, I'll come back and apologize to the border patriots who thought they would get a wall.  Until then I'll consider those people as deluded, even if pointing out the truth seems obnoxious.

@aligncare @skeeter @Sanguine @Emjay thanx for your personal comments about my posts.  I suggest you turn that critical eye towards President Veruca Salt.

No, this IS all about you.  Don't try to shift the focus.

Well, sure @Once-Ler   When the wall gets built it will be easy to support Trump on that.  Right now, Trump is trying every possible way to achieve that outcome.  NOW is when he needs support.  After he's won, support is cheap.

Very well stated @Emjay
Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I disagree

Insane ultimatums and childish insults is not trying.  Trump hasn't the power to back up his empty threats and commands and he has done nothing to win others to his side.  Trump hasn't even slowed down his golf schedule.  He has already laid the blame for his failure on the rats...relying on his brain dead followers to forget the last 2 years, just as they forgot Mexico was going to pay for a wall, the DoJ was going to capture Hitlery, and the GOP was going to repeal Obamacare.  Most people are not dumb enough to fall for excuses like it is never Trump's fault that he pisses everybody else off...or it is always NT's fault that the Trump cult is disillusioned by the reality behind the tweets.

Trump is incompetent and ignorant.  His single term in office will be ridiculed for decades, and when all is said and done, you @Emjay will be red faced with embarrassment and likely the first one to deny you rode the Trump Train for so long.

The main problem with that impressive rant is.... the alternative to all of Trump's warts, tweets, failures and character flaws...

would have been a President Hillary Clinton.   Those of us that DO have cognitive awareness and logic know full well what that would have meant for America.... and no, it doesn't include a healthy, growing economy, lower taxes and regulations, cheaper gas, a booming job market or a military that is actually valued vs. demonized for a refreshing change....  it includes the exact opposite, like what we were inflicted with during the Obamanation.  So pardon my abject dismissal of your angst over Donald Trump here... cause considering all that, I suspect that your motivation reeks of leftism.

As for Trump 'not having the power'.... it ain't over yet, and at least .... despite the rats' best efforts to derail, diffuse and destroy him.... he's still trying and still going... like the energizer bunny.  Fair-minded folks give him credit for that.

The rats and rat supporters can go straight to Hell as far as I'm concerned....

just in case there was ever any doubt.   happy77

Nothing that you say has the slightest bit of truth to it.  He explained that he did not mean that Mexico would literally pay for the wall, as in writing a check.  He meant that they would eventually pay and they will.  They will pay because they cannot send their crooks and losers over to the U.S. anymore, nor can they send their massive drug industry over here.

If you had the slightest grasp of what is really going on and could see through your Trump hate blinders, you would realize that, even aside from the border security issue, Trump has done numerous other things to help the country.

The economy is better.  Job growth is happening.  We are far more respected on an International basis.  Many, many little things:  reducing government; calling attention to the need for forest management to reduce wildfires.

All you can do is whine about his personal tweets and habits.  With his schedule, which is probably ten times as onerous as anything you could do in a week, I'm glad he has the golf breaks.

The person who will be red-faced should be you, but it won't be because you are living in an alternate reality.

Well, some are related to me, and I made a decision long ago (Reagan days) not to sever a family tie because of politics.

I just limit the political conversation as much as I can when I'm around them.

I guess he meant money order, wire transfer, or plane load of cash?

It's an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5-10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year.

It’s a pity to see @Once-Ler so mired in hate. He’s missing out on possibly the experience of a lifetime. The satisfaction of significant victories for what was once ostensibly his side of the political aisle. Not since Reagan are republicans winning on so many high profile issues. He should be basking – not bitching.

My leftist friends claim that those coming in from Canada are more dangerous than those coming through the southern border..... more terrorists, that is.

How does one counter that claim?

They are relying on two, incomplete pieces of data.

1. More people on the terrorist watch list have been apprehended crossing the Canadian border.
2. Certain classes of drugs, like opioids come more from Canada.

Those are incomplete because they are a very small slice of a larger pie. The terrorist watch list, for example, doesn't account for the complete number of criminals that enter, at that, it is a tiny fraction of a tiny fraction of, for example, the number who come in through various street gangs or organized crime.

Opioids are not the only drug to come across. Cocaine for example, mostly comes across the southern border. Heroin, through ports (hidden in shipments). Meth is mostly domestically produced. Pot is from all over, but now that it is being legalized quickly, it is become less of an issue on either border.

Of course we have the technology, but drones without a wall and increased manpower are futile.  The drones can certainly spot those coming across, but how long do you think its going to take 'manpower' to get there??  Keep in mind that the southern border is appx. 1,954 miles long and there are only appx.16,000 border agents.

A wall alone isn't going to stop illegal immigration, but a barrier is definitely needed to aid and assist technology and manpower.

@libertybele

Not going to be the problem some people think it is. They can put sensors in the wall to detect the vibrations from a grinding wheel, saw blade,or cutting torch, and then sent agents to that spot after verifying what is going on with a drone.

Having said that,I still prefer the cement wall. More expensive to put up,but will outlast steel by at least 10 to 1,and will require no maintenance while doing so. Yeah, you can cut concrete with a saw too,but who has a saw that will cut concrete that is 4 feet thick?

A wall will be the same as a force multiplier for the border patrol agents because it will force the illegals and the cartels to focus their efforts at one place, and the BP can create "way stations every few miles in areas most likely to be breached. When the sensors embedded in the walls start to scream in pain, they know where to go,and just load up and go there.

The DO need to start civil wars to overthrow their corrupt, thieving govenrments.

And we can  help them to do this by keeping their citizens from invading America.

Another liberal talking point is if you can believe it that Hondurans are coming because of what Hillary did to them.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.
