Manchin to donate salary during shutdown to food banks
By Michael Burke - 01/08/19 03:03 PM EST

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced Tuesday that he will donate his pay during the government shutdown to food banks in West Virginia.

Manchin called the shutdown "reckless" in a statement and said members of Congress don't deserve to be paid if they "cannot do our job."

He also called it "unacceptable" that families in West Virginia who use food stamps "will go without that critical assistance."

“If Congress cannot do our job, we should not get paid. As a result of this reckless shutdown, 340,000 West Virginians who depend on food stamps will go without that critical assistance. Children will go hungry, pregnant mothers will not get the nutrients they need and our elderly neighbors will not have dinner on the table," he said.

At least 20 percent of the population. But Joe doesn't see anything wrong with that.
