@mountaineer

I have no idea who that guy was and never saw him in anything,but ain't 60 a little old to be overdosing? Most people have grown up a long time before that age.
Seemed to be a talented and busy actor. I noticed something strange in his Bio, both on Wikipedia and IMDB, no mention whatsoever about family. There was some vague statement about how he had been ill lately, maybe heart related and no mention about who found him and called it in to the police.

Actually, that's what I read in an article as well, that he suffered from heart problems. I'm not sure if it was a "vague" mention, it stated it fairly clearly.

Astrologer Walter Mercado

Walter Mercado, the Puerto Rican TV astrologer whose warmth and flamboyance won him scores of fans across Latin America and the United States for more than 30 years, has died. The Associated Press reports that Mercado was 88.

Mercado died Saturday night at Auxilio Mutuo Hospital in San Juan from kidney failure, hospital spokeswoman Sofia Luquis told the AP.

For decades, Mercado was a fixture on Spanish-language television where, at the height of his fame, his astrology reports reached an estimated 120 million viewers — more than the Super Bowl. His horoscopes commonly followed news programs, including Univision’s “Primer Impacto,” a “60 Minutes”-like investigative show.

@GtHawk  I love your pinup Avatars!  This one is really sweet!

@Gefn

When I was in college, I was the music editor for the campus paper. At the time Virgin Records was getting off the ground. They sent me three albums and a small promotional booklet . . . with a Vargas girl facing each page of text. Alberto Vargas was a very stylish and elegant pinup painter.

(The three albums, by the way, were Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells as orchestrated by avant-gardist David Bedford; Tangerine Dream leader Edgar Froese's first solo album, Aqua, which sounds about the way you might expect from a title like that; and, Bedford's own composition Star's End.)

Original 'Marlboro Man' Robert Norris Dead at 90, Never Smoked

The first real-life cowboy who held a Marlboro cigarette in his hand, and played the role of the "Marlboro Man" -- even though he wasn't a smoker -- has died.

Robert Norris, who played the advertising icon for a dozen years, reportedly died last Sunday at his ranch in Colorado Springs.

As the story goes, ad execs noticed Norris in a newspaper photo with his longtime friend -- an actor by the name of John Wayne -- and tracked him down at his 63,000-acre ranch in Colorado.

They thought he was perfect for the rugged, genuine cowboy character, and according to a friend ... he did it as a favor. This was in the '60s, and Bob appeared in magazines, commercials and billboards for the cigarette company for the next 12 years.

Great story about Mr. Norris.  Thanks for posting the obituaries, @Gefn

There were other Marlboro Men and I remember some of them died from smoking-related illnesses.  I think one of them in particular made an anti-smoking commercial when he was terminally ill.

Mr. Norris seems like he was a good guy.  May he rest in peace.

@Applewood , he seemed to be a real salt of the earth guy. Married over 60 years, didn’t let fame get to his head, yet hung out with John Wayne. Used his money for good. More people should be like him. RIP, sir.

(Strange they don’t give his cause of death, but it wasn’t lung cancer)

Robert Freeman Dies: Photographer For Iconic Beatles Albums, Film Director Was 82

He shot four of the most iconic cover photos for the Beatles' albums:

(I know, I know, it wasn't born that way, but that's how American fans including me first, ahem, met the Beatles on Capitol Records.)

RIP.

Pearl Harbor survivor George Hursey dies in Brockton at 98

Pearl Harbor survivor George Hursey dies in Brockton at 98.

The state’s last known survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor died of natural causes on Tuesday, leaving Massachusetts without a living veteran of one of the deadliest foreign attacks to ever take place on American soil.

Born on Oct. 14, 1921, George Hursey grew up with nine siblings on a farm near Durham, North Carolina. They lived in a log cabin and ate homegrown vegetables and livestock raised by their parents, he later told his children

There are so few WWII survivors left.  :crying:  God willing, one of them - a friend of my sister and b-i-l - will turn 100 next month. He was in Army intelligence in England during the war.

@mountaineer  a 104 year old veteran was at the wreath ceremony today in London. He’s the oldest surviving veteran in the UK of WWII. Very moving too.

@jmyrlefuller

13 is just too damn young to die. You are just beginning to discover life and to become your own person.

I have no idea why they didn't mention the cause of death unless they were hiding something from the insurance company that would have kept her from working.

Maria Perego
Creator of Topo Gigio dies at 95

Perego's creation, a little foam mouse, was introduced to the world in 1958, becoming a pop culture icon in Italy. Appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show made the character famous in the United States during the 1960s as well, with Topo Gigio quickly becoming a regular on Sullivan's program, brought to life through an elaborate black art puppetry system that required five men to operate.
