Didn't realize Miss Vanderbilt was still alive.   Had a suit designed by her.  Was able to get it for a reasonable price at the now defunct Saks Fifth Avenue location in downtown Pittsburgh during one of the store's clearance sales.  Wore that suit to work for many years and received plenty of compliments on it.

Rest in peace, Miss Vanderbilt.

Mohammed Morsi
Egyptian president and suspected terrorist dies at 67]

Having spent much of his young adulthood in the United States, Morsi returned to Egypt in 1985, was elected to the Egyptian parliament in 2000 and was elected President of Egypt in 2012. Less than a year later, after having attempted to consolidate his power into a dictatorship, he was deposed in the Arab Spring.

A longtime member of the Muslim Brotherhood with suspected ties to the Palestinian terror group/political party Hamas, Morsi was on trial for international espionage when he died following his collapse in an Egyptian courtroom.

I saw Romeo and Juliet as a teenager.  For us kids it was the in movie to see  at the time.  Leonard Whiting (Romeo) was a hunk and the girls went crazy over him.  The film itself was ok -- more of a modern retelling of the story, which didn't go over well with purists.  The film did win a few awards.

Rest in peace, Mr. Zefferelli

We must be in the same age group. At the time it was the movie to see as I recall. It was so entrancing because at the time Olivia was so young and Leonard, as you said was a hunk. Not being a Shakespeare afficianado...the variance didn't even sink into my romantic brain,  lol.

Wow. Hillary is really covering her tracks...

(For those who just tuned in, Morsi's wife and Huma's mom were reputed to be pals over at the Muslim Sisterhood, a sorts ladies' auxiliary of the Muslim Brotherhood. Yep. That Huma. There are no coincidences.)

It is my sad duty to report TBR has lost one of our Members.   8888crybaby

Machiavelli has passed, and has joined his beloved wife Estelle.  May he finally find relief to the pain her passing has left behind.

Godspeed, @Machiavelli.  The Staff, Management and Members of The Briefing Room will miss you greatly.

Me neither.  I did know his heart was broken when God called Estelle home.

Sadly, this happens often, particularly when a couple has been together for years.  Just so hard for one to go on when his or her mate is called home.

Rest in peace Machiavelli.  May you and your beloved Estelle be happy together for eternity.

Dave Bartholomew
Prolific songwriter from the New Orleans music scene dies at 100

Bartholomew's breakthrough in the music industry came in the early 1950s, when he wrote many of Fats Domino's early hits (including "Ain't That a Shame" and "I'm Walkin'"), produced several of his other hits, and provided his backing band. Among some of his other hits outside of working with Domino are "I Hear You Knocking," made a hit by Dave Edmunds in the early 1970s, and "My Ding-a-Ling," which later became Chuck Berry's lone number-one hit.

Dave Bartholomew, sure, great song writer... Fats actually made a lot of albums though we know his big hits mostly.

Per Elliot Roberts:

Neil Young Pens Tribute to Former Manager and "My Best Friend" Elliot Roberts
Ashley Iasimone, Billboard

"We are all heartbroken, but want to share what a great human being Elliot has been," the musician wrote Saturday.

Neil Young has published a heartfelt letter on the loss of his longtime manager, Elliot Roberts, who died Friday morning at the age of 76.

"My friend for over 50 years, Elliot Roberts, has passed away. We are all heartbroken, but want to share what a great human being Elliot has been," the singer-songwriter wrote Saturday of the legendary music manager.

Oh, what horrible news to come back to!

May God rest his sweet soul!
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.
