My college fraternity room mate, was a music major and played the coronet. He turned me on to lotsa great music, like Getz & Gilberto, Hugh Masakela, etc.

So don't harsh my buzz.

My sister is part of a trio (clarinet, cello and violin) that plays exclusively Latin American music. They also have a soprano singer from Brasil, who does a nice rendition of "Ipanema." The audience loves it. Here's a video of their CD recording session, featuring "Girl from Ipanema" in Portuguese.

Cameron Boyce
Child actor/dancer dies at 20

Boyce had a number of films to his credit but his steadiest work was for Disney Channel, where he starred in a number of the channel's original productions, including Jessie and the Descendants TV-movie franchise. He had just finished Descendants 3 prior to his death from a seizure (stemming from an unspecified "ongoing medical condition") the morning of July 7.

@mountaineer and everyone

Back on the second season of “Amazing Race” the girl, who obviously was a woman handed the racers a clue on that beach,

I reviewed it for a tv website and said “after all these years she’s still tall and tan and lovely”

R.I.P. H. Ross Perot.  Lost a 5 month battle with leukemia.  He was 89.

H. Ross Perot
Two-time independent Presidential candidate dies at 89

Perot founded Electronic Data Systems in 1962, which finally broke through a few years later when Lyndon Johnson's Great Society needed to computerize its records for the new senior universal health care system, Medicare. By 1968, Perot's wealth had skyrocketed and he would eventually die a multibillionaire.

In 1992, upset over the Persian Gulf War, Perot launched his independent campaign for President. Running on a combination of populism and debt control, Perot's 1992 campaign drew a higher share of the vote than any third-party candidate—19%— since the Bull Moose Party in 1912 (though he won no states or electoral votes, only winning a few scattered counties, and thus George Wallace's 1968 campaign and Strom Thurmond's 1948 campaign were more successful in that respect). The spoiler effect arguably allowed Democrat Bill Clinton to win the Presidency despite only receiving 43% of the vote, again the lowest proportion of the vote since 1912.

Perot ran for President again in 1996, but was less successful, garnering only about 9% of the vote. His political structure eventually evolved into the Reform Party, which continued to exist as a substantial political force for a few election cycles afterward but has declined in influence since then.

Perot died of leukemia July 9.

LOTS of people don't know it because Perot never chose to brag about it,but he hired a LOT of vets, and he also sometimes paid for "outside the VA" medical care for VN veterans who couldn't get the treatment they needed at the VA,and who couldn't afford to seek it elsewhere.  When my friend Frank Miller (MoH winner) came down with incurable cancer and the VA gave him 6 weeks to live,Perot got his medical records copied and sent them to the top cancer specialists in the US for review, and offered to pay every dime out of his own pocket if they could save him. I know this to be a fact because Miller told me this himself over the telephone. Sadly, there was nothing to be done, and he died soon afterwards from wounds he received in VN. Nobody checked blood supplies back then, and he received tainted blood after one of the times he got shot up.

Perot was the one and only time I voted third party. Even when he ran...it was obvious we were headed to massive debt.

That being said....in the late 60's and early 70's I waited tables at Kips Big Boy. Ross would come in with 20 or so people on Sunday morning for breakfast. We would all take straws on who would wait on them. They ran your behind off...and left a quarter tip... :rolling:

I know he meant well, but his greatest impact on history was unleashing the Clinton Crime Machine.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

There's that.  I keep that in mind while reading/listening to all the hagiographies.

My opinions of Mr. Perrot are much more influenced by his out of the spotlight actions than any of his public forrays

I prefer to think of those.  He did help a lot of people, like his employees in post-revolutionary Iran.  That took some guts.

Larry Elder has discussed this some on his show, I don't buy it altogether, I don't think the Perot voters were split on Slick Willie and Bush 41 but I think there were quite a few voters who normally, would have voted Democratic that voted for Perot.  So, I do think it would take some study rather than just saying "Perot threw the election to Clinton"... I lean that way but I don't think it's as clear cut as we might make it.

Ed Rollins was on Fox News this morning, and he said it wasn't Perot's fault Bush 41 lost.  Don't know if I believe him, but he was there.

That describes my aunt and uncle, good ol' traditional FDR Democrats who knew something was amiss with Clinton but weren't about to vote Republican. So they voted for Perot.

A similar theory was thrown at me in 2016:  Vote third party or write in or stay at home and you are voting for Hillary. It's yet another scare tactic used  by Republicans and Democrats alike to force you to vote for one of the two stupid parties.  Didn't buy that nonsense then and don't buy it now.

We are talking about the 1992 election. Let's leave present bitter feelings out of this.

I have to admit that at first I was a HUGE fan and of his and really wanted him to win. Then it became obvious he was only in it to try to keep the Bush Crime Family from winning because there was something person in it between him and the family,so I dropped all support for Perot.

At that time I supported Boy Jorge (truth to tell I still like him as a person) because I had no idea his globalist mother was pulling his strings in the background.  Didn't even understand how evil Poppy was at the time.

Sounds about right. I have met and come to know several self-made millionaires, and not a single one of them was casual about his money.

Part of Perot's "thing" was he liked to hire former SF soldiers as guards and security agents,so offering to help a SF Medal of Honor winner didn't exactly hurt him with the Special Operations Crowd.

Correct.  It was the trail of broken lies and misread lips that created Perot.
