@Freya

I should look at that.  Maybe it's a difference in subscription?  I do remember once looking at a library of free movies and tv on Amazon Prime, but the shows and movies were all junk.

I don't have Amazon Prime on my laptop or tablet.  For some reason the apps for both don't work.

I have Amazon Prime - can we watch movies on there on our computer?  Do they charge money even though we have Prime?

@Applewood I have Amazon Prime and watch FREE movies on my computer!  Lots to chose from too.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

A couple of weeks ago I started watching one of Amazon's original series:  The Marvelous Mrs. Maizel  It's set in Manhattan in the 50"s, and I love the music and the clothes.  Almost done with the second season and hope I don't have to wait too long for the third.

I was thinking of looking into Netflix but decided not to since it's going to be another way to enrich the Bammys and promote their socialist agenda.

Stayin' home keeping the dog company because she hates fireworks.

I'm going to remember to feed the dogs before sundown.

Just like I say every year.

Being 50, it's just hard to go out anymore. Nothing against the Milllenials, but my generation went out and partied to blow off steam from work, school, family, whatever. Work hard during the week, let it out on the weekends. It was more afterthought than planning, basically 'just get me out of the house, I'm going crazy'.

The younger generation has turned all that into almost it's own culture, reinforced by smartphone social media network and weird little unspoken rules. Not that I don't enjoy being around them, but I don't feel like I can be myself in the night life scene, because I'm the 'old guy'.  Many have a real obsession with age that comes off as not really wanting 'old people' out in a social setting.

And I'm happy to oblige them. I really don't need to be around that snooty crap anyway.

I haven't went out on NYE in years.  too dangerous.  I'll be at home eating homemade nachos (get them once a year) and fixing black eyed peas for New Years day.

Funny how it all becomes about food, chuckle.

And...there is a Twilight Zone marathon I have to watch. wink777

I always loved to go to rock concerts, but I found over the last few years, the younger crowd has spoiled the experience.  They get drunk, start fights, try to kick my cane put from under me and knock me over, you name it.  And you oughta see the rest rooms.  Beer cans and condoms in the toilet.  Some times pee and vomit on the floor.  Some acts now stream their shows.  So I stay home and watch on my laptop.  I can use my own bathroom, I have my own seat (recliner), beverages and snacks at my side if I want and an unobstructed view of the show.  I don't have to put up with rude, obnoxious kids and it's a helluva lot cheaper (no need to pay for the ticket, transportation and parking, among other things).

I agree. And it's weird, because even a 5 years ago it wasn't like that. I worked a gas station job for awhile for some side money, and worked with mostly 18-23 y/o. We worked hard, had lots of fun, and even hung out on occasion. We related to each other and were good friends.

Now things have completely flipped. Going out makes me feel like I'm back in the cliquely obnoxious BS high school crap again, just like you described.

Okay, the plans are set, and they're pretty much the same as every other NYE. Cook a nice dinner (tonight: filet mignon, pommes de terre au gratin, broccoli, and a nice Malbec), watch a little TV and get in bed before 11 p.m.  :yawn2:

Sounds like a lovely evening and a fitting end to 2018.

That's remarkably similar to the plans that my wife and I have: fire up the grill, put on a couple of nice Omaha steaks, and serve with potatoes and stir-fried  vegetables and a nice bottle of wine (probably a Malbec or Cabernet). Then we'll watch a movie or two until it's close to midnight and watch the ball drop with the sound down low.

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

The usual traditions. Dinner with the family and my folks, work a jigsaw puzzle on the kitchen table, play some board games or Catchphrase with the kids while my husband is re-watching the Kentucky vs Louisville basketball game for the 3rd or 4th time.
