Trump White House preparing for 'knock-down, drag-out fight' with new House: report
By Justin Wise - 12/17/18 07:49 PM EST

The Trump administration has reportedly begun filling important positions in preparations for potential legal showdowns with a House controlled by Democrats.

NBC News, citing two Republican sources, reported on Monday that the preparations involve getting a new legal team set in the White House.

A source familiar with the administration told the news network that the White House is readying for “knock-down, drag-out fight" as the Democrats in the House vow more oversight over the administration.

The fight could play out in a variety of ways, and will likely include congressional subpoenas.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone officially began his job last week after his security clearance review was completed. He assumes the role a couple months after President Trump announced he would replace Don McGahn as the White House’s top lawyer.

The new White House counsel team will include four deputies, NBC News reported, all of whom have been described as respected ex-Justice Department lawyers.

Mike Purpura, a former federal prosecutor and Justice Department official, is becoming the deputy White House counsel, according to NBC News.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.

It will less of "a fight" than a stalemate right from the start that lasts two years.

Fortunately, judicial appointments will be unaffected.

With the right maneuvers, even the wall can get construction begun. Declare an emergency along the entire border, and have the military step in (Army Corps of Engineers) to build "a barrier". Get the funding from military appropriations -- funds that already exist.

Sounds simple, why doesn't he do it?
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

@Chosen Daughter

Because the preferred/traditional way to do it is through Congress.

The argument has been made that he may not have the authority to use military funds to erect a wall.  IF he does, then why in the heck didn't he do that after his first couple of weeks in office?  Why the cat and mouse game?

Sorry ... but when you have illegals pouring over the borders and showing up in mobs in caravans and have the DEMS refusing to give you the $$ from the beginning, you pull up your boot straps and order the military to get it done.  This was his #1 PROMISE!

The preferred way hasn't worked from day one.  No excuses.

White House suggests it could back down on $5 billion border wall demand
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/18/white-house-suggests-it-will-back-down-on-5-billion-border-wall-demand.html

The White House suggested Tuesday that President Donald Trump could back down from his demand for $5 billion to fund his proposed border wall in a year-end spending bill.

Trump's push for the money has threatened a partial government shutdown when funding for seven agencies lapses after midnight Friday. Last week, the president said he would be "proud" to close parts of the government over border security.

"We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion that we'll work with Congress," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Fox News on Tuesday morning. She added that the Trump administration could support $1.6 billion in border security funding proposed by Senate Democrats, as long as it can "couple that with other funding resources" to get to $5 billion....

Government no longer is responsive to the electorate. Time to do the right thing, get 'er done by whatever legal means necessary and let the political chips fall where they may.

  • Ah, the air is so much fresher here...
We don't have to hardly do a damn thing the next two years but let the House spin in a tizzy. Confirm judges and launch investigations.
The Republic is lost.

That didn't last long. He changed his negotiation strategy to 'cave'. So much winning.

Caving on the wall sorta takes the belief out of this vow.

He won't resign, but he is likely to spend the rest of his Presidency (ending in 2020) phoning it in.
