Trump announces second round of farm aid to offset trade damage

BY MICHAEL BURKE AND BRANDON CONRADIS - 12/17/18 04:33 PM EST

President Trump on Monday announced his administration was planning to disperse a second tranche of aid as part of the $12 billion package meant to assist American farmers stung by retaliatory trade measures enacted by China and other foreign governments.

"Today I am making good on my promise to defend our Farmers & Ranchers from unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations," Trump tweeted. "I have authorized Secretary (Sonny) Perdue to implement the 2nd round of Market Facilitation Payments. Our economy is stronger than ever–we stand with our Farmers!"

The Trump administration announced in July it was dispersing $12 billion in aid to farmers amid escalating trade disputes with China, Mexico, Canada and the European Union (EU). The administration said it would dole out the first $6 billion in August.

Now this I definitely don't agree with.
The Republic is lost.

Yep.

That's why who he was until he ran for the presidency matters.   **nononono*
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

"Sometimes I think the Church would be better off if we would call a moratorium on activity for about six weeks and just wait on God to see what He is waiting to do for us. That's what they did before Pentecost."   - A. W. Tozer

Use the time God is giving us to seek His will and feel His presence.

Oh, but he has "evolved."  At least that's what a Trump supporter told me once.

Actually, these days the two main parties are the same in most areas, including how they love to spend our hard-earned money.  Trump fans might tell us Trump is not a politician in the usual sense of the word.  But he is.  Doesn't matter which party he belongs to.  He is just like the rest of them.

I can't wait to see what spending spree bill Trump will sign next.

GOP lawmaker fires back at Trump over farm aid

Quote
Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) on Monday night fired back at President Trump over the president's $12 billion farm aid package, calling it a "bailout."

"My fellow Republicans used to oppose bailouts," Amash wrote, responding to Trump's tweet from earlier in the day. "Now, they euphemistically call them 'market facilitation payments.'"

"@POTUS’s big-government trade policy hurt many farmers and ranchers, and he’s responding with even bigger government," Amash added.

The federal government picking winners and losers.

Not the federal government's job.

Tariffs like socialism have unintended consequences that gets its advocates deeper and deeper in trouble trying to "fix" the consequences of what was applied previously. The only smart thing to do is not start the events rolling. But the temptation of thinking they're smarter than the last people who tried it seems to be too much for some and the lessons are never seemingly learned.
