Pence aide Ayers will not be White House chief of staff

By Brett Samuels  - 12/09/18 04:30 PM EST

Nick Ayers, the current chief of staff for Vice President Pence, will not be President Trump's next White House chief of staff, an official confirmed to The Hill on Sunday.

Ayers, who was considered one of the likeliest choices to replace John Kelly, will instead work for the super PAC supporting the president, the source said. Trump will settle on a new chief of staff by the end of the year.

Ayers announced the news a short time later on Twitter.

No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Ayers was widely seen as the frontrunner to succeed Kelly, but he could not come to an agreement with Trump about the terms of his service.

The president wanted Ayers to make a long-term commitment to the job. But the 36-year-old aide was unwilling to commit to anything more than an interim role, expressing a desire to return to his home state of Georgia with his wife and children, according to a person familiar with the situation.

Sources within the White House have also indicated that Manafort has also declined the offer citing the need to spend more time with Prison Officials in Va.

LOL - likewise with Cohen and the federal pen. According to reports, he actually expected to be CoS, at one time.
