The official schedule to honor President George H.W. Bush

Thank you, mystery!

Hope springs eternal that this thread will stop careening off the rails.  happy77
Character still matters.  It always matters.

May 3, 2016 - the day the Republican party left ME.  I am now without a Party, and quite possibly without a country.  May God have mercy!

The most important part of my "claim" is being investigated right now under the Trump administration and being quietly taken care of with a light cover-up. A lot of folks don't know it outside of certain parts of Texas but there was a meltdown following Hurricane Harvey that nearly plunged that area into a civil war and a lot of people got screwed when their tight lip secretive communist operations fell apart. It's a bad sitchiashun and it all stems from this communist-like culture that has boiled in repression in the deep south, particularly parts of New Mexico and Texas. Not everything makes the news and D.C. doesn't tell the public everything that's going on. And you should remember that the internet doesn't have everything you need to know on it.

This garbage should be on another thread.

I live near the center of the Harvey damaged areas in Texas.  What kind of crap are you trying to claim with this "civil war"?  It was amazing how strangers from all over the area pulled together to help each other out.  There is no communist-like culture here.

Let's see:

* He was the Navy's youngest such when commissioned as an aviator.
* He flew 58 combat missions in World War II, earning three Air Medals and a Distinguished Flying Cross.
* He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Yale.
* After working a few years as a salesman in oil, he co-founded a successful oil company.
* He chaired the Republican National Committee and worked to defend the party when Richard Nixon's Watergate culpabilities threatened the party itself, even as he had to become one of the top Republicans to tell Nixon resignation was his best course.
* He ran the CIA for a year and was credited with restoring the agency's morale (huge in the wake of the Church Committee hearings) before handing off to E. Henry Kinoche, who handed off to Stansfield Turner.
* He did prosecute Operation Desert Storm itself successfully and swiftly, on the terms he laid out for it, after building its support coalition.
* He didn't exactly put the Cold War in its grave (Ronald Reagan dug the grave) but he was smart enough not to move too many muscles as the Soviet Empire and most of the Communist world collapsed at last. Most of us could think of others who'd have botched the job.

It doesn't equal beatification, canonisation, or sanctification to grant Bush his due as a genuinely decent man who wasn't a truly great president, was too often malleable as a politician, and thought absolutely nothing as regards the continuing metastasis of the State (he was anything but a man who believed in limited government and would probably have been stuck for an answer if you asked him the distinction between a properly-construed government and the improperly consecrated State), but to suggest he had no measurable achievement in his life is disingenuous. In and of itself, all things considered, it's achievement itself to remain a decent man in a profession as indecent as politics.
My comments were directed at the Bush's sentimental Fan Club, rather than Bush.
* Firstly, being a decent human being is a minimum and ordinary requirement for
any Man and hardly a mark of achievement.
* As for his military service in WWII, he was one of more than 250,000 who served
honorably in the Army Air Corps; an obligation rather than any achievement.
* Regarding Phi Beta Kappa, it's a members club, like SAG in Hollywood, who run the
Academy Award Show, promoting actors and movies.
* Sure he was a swell guy and so what; as he most emphatically was not the second
coming of Pericles or Julius Caesar!!!
* At his core, he was a political time server like Samuel and Prescott who "did politics"
   and very unsuccessfully, having been defeated for national office a half dozen times;
before Reagan threw him a life preserver.
Yet to believe the media frauds and hustlers, Bush was a modern clone of Jefferson and Madison.
Sadly the easily impressed believe this malarkey.

Geez. Bush died? This should be in breaking news for about four or five weeks until it is downgraded to "Who Gives A Shit" status.
