Texas’ 5.4 million students will be taught that slavery played a “central role” in the Civil War, according to reports.

The Texas Board of Education voted Friday to make the change, which goes into effect beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, NPR reported.

Students were being taught that there were three causes for the Civil War: sectionalism, states’ rights and slavery.

The board’s Democrats favored listing slavery as the only cause.

And this is how lies becomes truth.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

The states of the time used slavery as a significant cause for the seceding from the union.

@Elderberry

Of course they did. All all good Comrades everywhere knows,history is whatever the Party claims it to be.

It wasn't that long ago that some reporter asked a Russian health official at a medical conference about AIDS treatments in Russia,and was loftily informed ON CAMERA that "We have none because there are no AIDS patients in the Soviet Union"!

IIRC,homosexuality was illegal in the USSR,therefore there was none.

Let's not forget that slavery continued during this time in the North in spite of those misguided to believe it was the 'only' cause of the South's cessation.

And no less a personage that Commander of the Union Army U.S. Grant owned several that were not freed until after the war was over.

I believe slavery was a/the major cause for secession.

I don't believe slavery was a/the major cause for the war.

Basically, I think both sides sucked.
