World Series---Live Thread---Game Three
« on: October 27, 2018, 12:24:22 am »
The good news for the Dodgers---Walker Buehler got the side in order.

The bad news---the Red Sox made him work his ass off for it, fouling off pitch after pitch . . . they made him throw 26 pitches in the inning, could be critical if Buehler begins to wear down early.

Middle of the first, the Red Sox nothing and the Dodgers coming up to hit.

The Dodgers put some Red Sox-like at-bats together in the bottom of the first, get a two-out walk to Max Muncy, but Manny Machado forces him at second on the first pitch for the side.

No score after one full inning.

The Red Sox get second and third with two out but can't quite bring them in, fly out to center near the track retires the side.

No score after two and a half . . .

The Dodgers strike first. Joc Pederson hits a solo home run with two out. 1-0, Dodgers after three full.

The Red Sox go down in order but not without a scare when Cody Bellinger loses sight of a Mitch Moreland fly deep to left center but Joc Pederson running over to back him up catches it for the second out.

1-0, Dodgers, middle of the fourth . . .

The Red Sox go in order. Walker Buehler is pitching brilliantly despite the Red Sox's almost-constant contact. (They've struck out only four times and fouled off 20 of Buehler's pitches.)

1-0, Dodgers, middle of the fifth . . .

Trivia: Entering Game Three, the Red Sox had eleven more hits than strikeouts this postseason; the Dodgers had 48 more strikeouts than hits.

Yasmani Grandal had a leadoff single . . . the Red Sox went to the bullpen with two outs to get the lefty-lefty matchup on Pederson and Eduardo Rodriguez struck him out for the side.

1-0, Dodgers after five.

Manny Machado hit one high and deep over J.D. Martinez's head and thought it was going out . . . he didn't gun it out of the box, Martinez played the carom to hold him to a single, his face had the "I messed up!" look at first . . . then Bellinger popped out for the side . . . 1-0, Dodgers after six . . .

Red Sox reliever Ryan Brasier shakes off Yasiel Puig's leadoff infield hit and gets the rest of the side in order . . . 1-0, Dodgers after seven . . . the Dodgers look like they're going to ask Kenley Jansen for a six-out save in a must-win game for the Dodgers . . .

Great effort by Matt Barnes in the 8th. What a game.

The Dodgers don't score in the bottom of the eighth . . . the Red Sox don't score in the top of the ninth . . . we're still tied at one going to the bottom of the ninth with extra innings a real possibility . . .

. . . and we are going to extra innings after the Dodgers get two on (might have been bases loaded but Cody Bellinger got thrown out in a rundown trying to steal second) and don't cash them in . . .

Tied at one, going to the tenth!

First and third for the Red Sox with one out . . . pinch hitter Eduardo Nunez flies out to center . . . Cody Bellinger throws home and gets Ian Kinsler at the plate!! Maybe the play of the game depending . . .

Still tied at one going to the bottom of the tenth . . .

Bellinger's throw had to be perfect - and it was. This game is epic. If you're a fan and your heart had ligaments, you'd be on the DL by now. This is why baseball endures.

Max Muncy's two-out ground-rule double wasted when Manny Machado pops out to the infield.

Still tied at one.

Going to the eleventh . . .

Steve Pearce a two-out walk but Mookie Betts flies out to semi-deep right center for the side . . . and we go to the bottom of the eleventh still tied at one . . .

. . . and Austin Barnes worked out a two out walk but Heath Hembree struck Chris Taylor out swinging for the side for the Dodgers, and we go to the twelfth still tied at one . . .

Methinks the kitchen sink is coming out for both sides . . .
