This is New Jersey, where different tactics are needed. The polls I've seen show nearly a majority of voters don't have any opinion about Hugin at all. Hugin's run negative ads against Menendez - a true scumbag - but folks need a reason to vote FOR Hugin as well. And because New Jersey is not a hotbed of conservatism, Hugin needs to appeal to voters as a responsible centrist, who will protect health care and the right to choose. Hugin indeed has center-right credentials, and he needs to let New Jersey voters know about them.
Yes, I can anticipate the usual cynicism about electing conservatives or no one, but in a deep red state like New Jersey a centrist is still a helluva lot better than a corrupt liberal.
