Fresh tanks to replace ‘enduring equipment set’ on Korean Peninsula

By MARCUS FICHTL | STARS AND STRIPES Published: October 9, 2018

PYEONGTAEK, South Korea — New tanks bound for the 2nd Infantry Division’s rotational armored brigade combat team in South Korea began off-loading Monday at the port city of Busan, Eighth Army officials said Tuesday.

The new equipment, which includes M1 Abrams tanks and M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, is replacing some of the division’s local stock called the Korean Enduring Equipment Set, an Eighth Army statement said.

This is the first major refresh of tracked vehicles on the Korean Peninsula since 2014, it added. The new equipment will allow the rotational brigades to meet Army readiness and modernization goals while also providing troops training in the movement of equipment, the statement said.
