About daybreak Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, while many residents of Junction, Texas, were asleep, a wall of water came rushing down from the Llano River, catching the town unaware.

Emergency crews are searching for four men whose recreational vehicle was among those swept away from an RV park by the floodwaters, prompting dramatic rescues by helicopters and boats.

Heavy rains started falling Sunday night, causing the South Llano River to rise sharply. Kimble County Sheriff Hilario Cantu said Monday no fatalities had been confirmed but that “all the RVs, everything, got swept away.”

Officials with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department were able to rescue nearly four dozen people immediately after floodwaters careened into the RV park and pulled campers into the turbulent surge.

"RVs and tents were all taken into the water," said Rachel Kellner, public information officer for the TPWD. "We immediately were allowed to pick out about 45 people by walking in ... and throwing them a life jacket or throw-rope, but after that, (the water) got too high. Then we had to wait on helicopters and boats."...
