Dallas News by Tom Benning 10/8/2018

Sen. Ted Cruz and his GOP allies are looking to hold his Democratic challenger, Rep. Beto O'Rourke, over a barrel with an arcane bit of energy policy.

The Republicans have taken to bashing O'Rourke for supporting a $10 per barrel tax on oil, with Cruz citing that charge both on the campaign trail and in a TV advertisement and an outside super PAC group making the issue the centerpiece of an expensive advertising blitz.

"For anyone in the oil and gas industry, you would have to be out of your mind to vote for Beto O'Rourke," Cruz said at a recent campaign event, seeking to drive a wedge between his opponent and one of Texas' most important industries.

O'Rourke rejects the broader attack that he's an enemy of the energy sector.

"I strongly support the oil and gas industry and the workers of Texas who have helped to make us far more energy independent and secure, who are creating significant job opportunities and economic growth for our state," he said recently.

But what about that $10 per barrel tax on oil?

Beto is guilty.  Primarily because he supports people who support the dissolution of the oil industry.

Next case.

(Busted)....   Cruz needs to keep this drip drip drip of Beto's left leaning voting record between now and election day.

A month ago I was worried Cruz may eek out this thing with about a 5% lead.  I thinking now more like 8-10.  Beto peaked too soon.

Trump's pulled out all the stops to help Cruz. Again, it show Texas is undergoing a shift, who knows what it will looks like in 10 years.

Cruz has supported Trump, despite some of the phony scum who claim to support Cruz calling others the dirtiest of names.

The whole Kavanaugh story helps a lot of Republicans too.

Election results do not show any trend to democrats statewide in Texas.  Media bias is the only sign of it.

That's just your wishful thinking.  Over the long run it is changing.  Your article proves nothing.  It's about one little district race.

Mod note:  Personal attack removed.

Election results continue to show that to be a false claim.  In the past decades, the Texas Senate, the Texas House and the Texas US House have all gained republicans and lost democrats.  Where is the change you claim is happening?

To me, Beto looks and sounds stupid. His statements are nonsensical. He is doing his best to avoid saying he's a democrat- keep repeating he wants to represent all Texans. Absurd with his leftist policies.

I saw where he was a guest on Colbert last night.  Thinnking this backfires badly too.

Just enjoyed watching an anti-Beatoff ad on TV. Mentioned the $10.00 per barrel oil tax. Concluded with "Under the influence" of Nancy Pelosi. Loved it.

In 2016, O’Rourke voted against a resolution that would have opposed President Obama’s proposed $10-per-barrel tax on oil. It also expressed the sense of Congress that in the future, lawmakers should review the potential damages that new taxes would have on industries that have been subject to job, revenue, and production cuts.

The resolution stated:

    Whereas this tax could translate into as much as an additional 25 cents on a gallon of gas, when the Federal tax on gasoline is currently 18.40 cents per gallon;

It is the sense of Congress that—
(1) a new tax should not be placed on oil, and
(2) in considering future policy, Congress should carefully review the detrimental impacts of placing any new taxes on any industry that has seen a slash in jobs, revenue, and production.

I've seen the "can't we all get along" ads from Beto.
Yet, he's a lot more divisive than he lets on.
He spoke at Prairie View A & M university a few weeks ago and made the statement that the justice system is the new Jim Crow.
Doesn't get much more "divide and conquer" than that.
His ads never mention policy.
Gee, I wonder why?
