Michael is firing off some huge thunderstorms near the center. Taller than Florence at her peak. Maybe some dry air will entrain from the west and keep it from organizing any further.

Yesterday there seemed a good chance, now the only hope is that large tongue of dry air from central Louisiana through Northern Mexico (see below water vapor visible imagery) can accelerate and intermix with the storm. From the satellite loop it looks like a race.

OTOH, and what I think will more likely happen, as often in these cases with troughs, you will see an abrupt turn of the storm to the NE, and then E. The official NHC track kind of reflects this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the turn earlier, and more abrupt. Model data is very consistent a tightly bound in destination.

The eyewall is coming into view from the land-based radars. It looks pretty solid. Some folks in the panhandle and south GA are going to have a mess to clean up. At least the heat is waning.

Yikes!!! 4 a.m. advisory has storm is now at 140 mph (Medium Cat 4) , with some strengthening expected. Hopefully all have gotten out of harms way.

Prayers for everyone in Michael's path -- Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia and everywhere else Michael decides to go.

Looks like it will miss PA altogether , so where I live in the western section of PA won't get the remnants as we did with Florence. Thank God. We've had more than twice the average rainfall for the year. Could use a drought about now.

Weather report is saying a couple inches of rain over the entire day tomorrow with the usual places flooded out. Nothing major just rain all day nothing sinister I donâ€™t think.. Good for the garden.

Still going to the supermarket. Iâ€™m low on cream for coffee and coffee.

They just bumped the max sustained winds to 150 mph. The forward speed has increased slightly. Eastern Bay County and Gulf County are due to suffer a direct hit in a couple of hours. Panama City will probably experience the western side of the eye wall.

Solid cat 4 and strengthening, horrible for those in the NE quad. This is going to be a very bad
storm. The shape of the coast line gives the surge no place to go but inland.

If it is a 150 mph storm with 15 mph forward speed (storm surge accelerant) , hopefully he has already made it to Alabama or Georgia. We are talking stronger than either Katrina or Rita at landfall.

No one should be that near the coast with a near Cat 5 storm approaching. With winds like these, things like barges, and other large debris can do some serious catastrophic damage to what might appear to be sound structures.
