More than 650 law professors sign letter stating Kavanaugh lacks ‘judicial temperament,’ should not be confirmed
by Diana Stancy Correll

More than 650 law professors, including 13 affiliated with Yale Law School and 21 with Harvard Law School, have signed a letter to the Senate arguing that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should not be confirmed because of his “lack of judicial temperament.”

The professors pointed to Kavanaugh’s appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week amid allegations of sexual misconduct, where the Yale Law School graduate defended himself and called the attacks a “grotesque and coordinated character assassination.”

“The question at issue was of course painful for anyone. But Judge Kavanaugh exhibited a lack of commitment to judicious inquiry,” reads the letter, published by the New York Times on Wednesday. “Instead of being open to the necessary search for accuracy, Judge Kavanaugh was repeatedly aggressive with questioners.

“Even in his prepared remarks, Judge Kavanaugh described the hearing as partisan, referring to it as ‘a calculated and orchestrated political hit,’ rather than acknowledging the need for the Senate, faced with new information, to try to understand what had transpired,” the letter reads. “Instead of trying to sort out with reason and care the allegations that were raised, Judge Kavanaugh responded in an intemperate, inflammatory and partial manner, as he interrupted and, at times, was discourteous to senators.”

The letter states that judges are required to step aside if there is the possibility that they may be viewed as or display impartiality.

“We have differing views about the other qualifications of Judge Kavanaugh,” the letter states. “But we are united, as professors of law and scholars of judicial institutions, in believing that he did not display the impartiality and judicial temperament requisite to sit on the highest court of our land.”

Kavanaugh has been accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, including Christine Blasey Ford, who also appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week. Kavanaugh has rejected all allegations of sexual misconduct. While Kavanaugh has taught at Harvard Law for nearly 10 years, he will not return for an initially scheduled class on the Supreme Court in January.

The letter will be presented to lawmakers Thursday, and other professors have the opportunity to add their names to the list.

This is why Flake wanted the extra week. Get this off the lying whores and onto another line of attack. Looks like yesterday they decided that Kav is a nutjob. This will fail too.

Well since most folks that go into law are liberals/lefties.... it's no surprise that this many legal-eagle idiots are going along with that leftist agenda.  I'd be shocked if they didn't.  That would mean that they put principles over politics and had some integrity and honor.   (nice dream)

There go 650 law professors who voted for that felon Hillary.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

650 law professors who teach where? Aspiring attorneys would well
take note of such professors and conclude they are on the losing
side of history.

I suppose that attending law courses from these professors would
parallel taking courses in women studies. No offense to those
in women studies.

The thing that bothered me about my law professors was that very few (probably very close to zero) ever actually practiced law. It's been academia for them since their own graduations from law school. So what they know about judicial temperament also is close to zero. I've dealt with judges whose "temperament" would make these professorial snowflakes have the vapors.

@mountaineer

Unfortunately that is not unique to law professors. In fact, it is a common trait among all professors that they have exactly zero real world experience in their fields. Sadly we pay lots of our good money for those people to corrupt the minds of our children and it takes them years, if they ever do, to get their feet back on the ground in the real world. Higher education in this country needs a complete overhaul IMHO.

Yep.   The highest "possible" ranking given, in fact.

Regardless of their bias, the ABA has now given Brett Kavanaugh the association's highest possible ranking.

Kavanaugh already has an exemplary 12-year track record on the bench.  That is twelve years longer than any of these college professors.  If Kavanaugh lacked the judicial temperament to serve as a judge, we would know it already.

  • I don't believe in Trump anymore, he's an illusion
The letter states that judges are required to step aside if there is the possibility that they may be viewed as or display impartiality. I'm confused here, isn't this exactly what a judge is supposed to display?

How many of these 650 wise and no doubt democrat voters made the call for the Federal judges who made partisan statements and exhibited a total lack of impartiality when ruling against Trump or Conservatives?

That should apply to the current justice Ginsburg on all matters before SCOTUS pertaining to Trump after making this comment.

Yes, never met them and never met a conservative lawyer personally.  Every lawyer  in my town is hardcore democrat or at least lean left.

The Laura Ingrahams, few lawyers on Fre Republic,  Alito and Thomas are very small miniscule percentage of all lawyers.

I took a undergrad law class in college for a BER requirement. 40 students, me and another guy was the only conservative that I am aware of.

I have a step-daughter who is a lawyer and a strong liberal.
She is convinced that Ford was telling the truth. Women are to be believed. Her allegation was serious, so she must be telling the truth. At least according to my liberal step-daughter.
And get this, she eventually wants to be judge. Imagine being a male in her court accused of a sexual crime. GUILTY!!! Who needs proof says the judge.
My wife does not want to challenge her on the situation for fear of never seeing her grandchildren again.
But this is how the liberal mind works....a person is guilty until proven innocent.
